Seoul, Beijing or Taipei?

I need to do some work in May in Bangkok, and it looks like I'll be able to, for similar fares, schedule one of these long layovers:
~15 hours in Seoul (via Korean Air)
~15 hours in Beijing (via Air China)
~12 hours in Taipei (via EVA)

I could do shorter layovers, but I want the time to explore (haven't been to any of those - my only Asia trips have been to Japan, many years back).

Thoughts? Thanks!

Depends on what you are going for. Beijing has more history - the Great Wall, the forbidden city, the Ming tombs. Seoul has better food, and some good history. It's fairly cosmopolitan and there is a national park in the city. If you weren't looking to knock the Great Wall of your bucket list, I'd go to Seoul.

I love Seoul, but I would do Beijing.

The problem with Seoul, is that you are essentially landing at Inchon and having to travel quite a bit to even get to Seoul and get back before check in.

Taipei will not give you the sites you want to see in that short amount of time.

Only downside to Beijing is you will have to get a visa most likely unlike the others.

Incheon is an hour from the airport. Beijing is 40 minutes or more if the traffic is bad. There really isn't much difference.

Like I said, depends on what you are looking for. I like Seoul more.

I've never heard a bad thing about Seoul, but with all the tension on the peninsula right now I think I would be a little skeptical about going there right now.

With everything going on over there right now, I'd probably avoid Seoul.

Seoul is incredible. I visited last month and had a blast. But I had a friend who speaks Korean and knows how to get around. The language barrier there is actually pretty thick and I think there would be a lot of lost time just trying to figure out how to get somewhere.

You have a greater chance of dying in a car accident on the way to the airport than getting nuked in seoul.

Yup, wasn't expecting it.

Off topic but I did a recent review of EVA from a trip last month if you're interested

getting a chinese visa can be a lengthy process. don't think it's worth it if you're only gonna be there a few hours.

don't need visas for korea or taiwan.

thanks for the tips and warnings. Much appreciated.

Air China has raised their fares, so they are likely out.

Korean Air will allow me to insert a multi-day layover, for at most $40 additional, so I am all but certain I'll go this route and spend 2.5 to 3.5 days in the capital of South Korea.... hoping Emperor of the North chills a bit.

Note to one of the posters... I read somewhere that a 24 (or 48) hour Chinese tourist visa is a breeze to obtain at PEK and they are passed-out frequently and easily. Obviously, I cannot confirm this.

ok, a lot has happened since I posted this in April, the trip was almost pushed to June, but I just bought a flight a couple days ago on EVA, at a surprisingly low price (sub-$800). Leaving in under 48 hours.

So I will be in Bangkok for a few days, but my question is about a 15.5 hour Taipei layover, starting at 6am Wednesday. A few "facts":
- I am recovering from a January broken fibula/ankle so I am not able to walk miles and miles like I used to (yet)
- I booked a private room in a hostel right by "Taipei Main Station", to get a shower and a really quick nap in, after the 16 hour flight from IAH.

I am really throwing this all together, and trying to get ready for the work in Thailand. What's my game-plan for, say, six quality hours in Taipei based out of the Taipei Main Station?

I've been to Seoul twice. It's not a big deal.
