Going next week. Tagging along with the wife while she goes to a conference. Looking for anything interesting we should do. I'll be on my own during the day. Would like to go find some cool areas to photograph. Would also like any info on good restaurants or breweries.

It's getting pretty hot here during the day. Yall plan on driving up north any to say Sedona or Grand Canyon during your visit? Best way to beat the heat.

Old Town area is Scottsdale is an awesome area...lots of bars/restaurants/shopping. Can bar hop in the golf cart taxis in the area.

Some good restaurants:

Cool areas to photograph:

Drive up to the McDowell Mountain area....

We have some of the most beautiful sunsets out here as well....great photo ops
>

Go to the top floor of Talking Stick Resort anytime after 5pm to watch the sun set. There is an amazing sunset view of the mountains there.

We are staying at the Scottsdale plaza resort the first few nights for the conf, then going to the Omni resort. We are going to see the Diamondbacks on wed I think. Not sure we will be traveling to far away. Wife has been working hard so Sat we will prob just stay at the resort.

Was wondering if it is worth it to go see the Taliesin West house.

I've actually never been...and I like Frank Lloyd Wright stuff.

Do a google search...there are other Frank Lloyd Wright stuff in the area you can drive by and see. For example...the theater on ASU's campus in Tempe(ASU Gammage) is a Frank Lloyd Wright building and kinda cool if you are into his stuff.

I've never seen what Scottsdale Plaza Resort looks like...just know it by the massive fountain they have facing Scottsdale Rd. If you drive north on Scottsdale Road there are some cool shopping areas to just walk around and kill time. One is called Kierland Commons and across the street is The Quarter. Both open air shopping areas that resemble streets. The Quarter has an Ipic Theater in it...the nicest movie theater you could ever go to.

Go hike Pinnacle Peak - that's a good way to kill half a day and get great pictures.
Get a bike from your resort and ride around town, there are plenty of great places to eat.
Golf is amazing if your into that.

Scottsdale is awesome but 3 days is about all you would need. I would second the recommendation on driving to Sedona. Easy 2 hour drive and it's 100% worth it...nothing else quite like it.

It's hot, but you don't actually sweat.
Look up some tubing trips. I did one and it was a lot of fun.

Next week the highs are gonna be 107 almost daily. If he wants to do any hiking...he better be doing it at like 5 am(sun is out at 5 this time of year). And bring a ton of water with him.

Or else he will end up another tourist on the news being rescued on the trail for heatstroke.

Just got back from Az. Old town Scottsdale is great
Tempe near ASU has lots cool places, Sedona...take your wife!!!The Chapel is a must visit and the scenic route back to I17 south of Flagstaff is one of the prettiest drives in Az. Route 66 in Flagstaff has cool diners like "The Galaxy Diner" on Route 66 is very cool.

Not sure you'll be there on a Saturday or if classic cars are anything you're interested in, but there's a car show at the Pavilion every Saturday.

There is a lot to do in that general area. There is an indoor sky diving place that recently opened. Top Golf and Talking Stick Resort/Casino. There is also a huge indoor high speed go kart race track that is pretty fun.
