Thinking of taking the wife to San Francisco in June.
Looking for recommendations on where we should stay and great places to eat.

We stayed in financial district near the ferry building for a conference. Enjoyed being near the Embarcadero for bars/restaurants and strolls along the bay.

Had a great lunch at Scoma's by Fishermans Warf. Awesome clam chowder.

We were just there for the Saints/9ers game. Awesome town. We stayed at the Hilton Parc 55 and i would highly recommend it. Go hit a breakfast at the Buena Vista. It's at the end of the cable car line not to far from Fisherman's Wharf. Great breakfast and world famous Irish Coffee! It's a must.

Drive across the GG bridge. Go to the Pelican Inn at Stinson Beach. English pub with a great atmosphere.

Really great area during the week, can be a little dead during weekends. Ferry building is one of my favorite spots in the city for breakfast, lots of vendors with different items.

There's a place called sens that has a great happy hour during the week, huge outdoor patio with a great view of the bay.

Overall awesome city, enjoy!

This area was my favorite place in San Francisco. walking just north of this restaurant has some trails with beautiful views of the bay and bridge. Beautiful cliffs and cypress trees, this was my first realization on how beautiful California was. Also Sutro baths which were pools filled by sea water that the locals with Swim in years ago.

Stinson beach

I had never been to Stinson Beach, but it is very close to muir woods beach. Muir woods is maybe 20-30 minutes from the bridge, and is a must if you were looking for some nature. The most beautiful forest I have ever seen. If you keep traveling past the woodsyou end up on Muir beach, a quiet secluded cove beach where the mountains meet the ocean.

City park was cool too. I really didn't care for the city too much, and found myself drawn to the nature side of San Francisco. There was a cool area called Washington Square that had a rogue beer brewery, and some of the best pizza I've ever had at tony Pizza Napoletana

Consider extendind your trip to Lake Tahoe, or Carmel.

Appreciate the responses thus far. I don't believe we will stay in the city the entire time. I would like to go to Yosemite, but a 4 hour trip one way is turning me off at least for this trip.

We would like to visit Muir Woods and continue on to wine country afterwards for 1 or 2 nights. Any suggestions for red wine drinkers?

We stayed a week at Mark Hopkins Intercontinental and enjoyed it. Good location on cable car line and walking distance to Union Square.

Rented a car and drove north up the coast and made several stops in Sonoma and Napa. Did it in a day.

Another day, drove south along the coast thru Monterrey, Carmel, etc. stopped for a beer in Big Sur, and headed back on a different road. The south tour was more beautiful than the trip north to wine country.

Went over to Sausalito for lunch and shopping one day. Neat area.

Loved the Alcatraz tour, as well as the tour of the WW II submarine. Best audio guides I've ever had on tours. Most suck. These were great.

San Francisco is great.

If you have the time, take a day trip to Big Sur. You'll feel compelled to write poetry.

Had a really nice eating/drinking afternoon in San Fran about 6 months ago. Went to Zuni Cafe, stood up at the beautiful bar, ordered a lot of oysters and french fries and drank rose and martinis. Then walked down the street to Mission Chinese and ate some indescribably delicious, weird, and spicy food washed down with slightly cold beer. Then got on a red eye.
