Russian Travel Visa

Anyone ever gone through the process to obtain a travel visa for Russia?
I have a group of 4 going in June. We already booked the flights but do not have a hotel at this point.
It looks like there are lots of companies that will handle the process for a fee, but I want to make sure I don't get ripped off.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I did, twice. It was several years ago and I think I used waytorussia.net. It was for work so I did the expedited fee. It was kind of unnerving sending off your passport but I got it back no problem. They handled the inviation letter and all.

Did you have to do anything on your own, or just let them handle it?

I had to fill out a form, send in a couple of passport photos and a copy of my itinerary )and the money of course) and they did the rest. Painless but expensive.
