TY for the feedback on luggage racks in an earlier post.

Going with 3 adults, 2 kids (7 and 4) from Houston to NC in July. It'll be our first time on a road trip this long. Looking for advice on places we should stop on the way, places to eat- anything. Tia

Are y'all doing it in one day? Or breaking it into two?

getting there would be from Baton rouge to NC. I've done it a ton of times growing up, so I know it can happen. Never with kids though, so it's a wait and see kind of thing.

Way back would prob be broken into two.

Was thinking Atlanta, but if Chattanooga is a better option then happy to change it up a bit.

Scenic route

Go to Chattanooga - Cleveland - Ocoees (raft them if you can) - Murphy - Franklin (if not on a Sunday or Monday, stop at the Hot Spot gas station in the center of town and eat lunch or dinner at Caffe REL) - enjoy the shite out of the road to Highlands (several good restaurants here too) and look at all the waterfalls - go through Cashiers/Sapphire/Lake Toxaway, lots here to enjoy - then finally into Brevard.

Atlanta can be the fastest way (ideally it is), but the traffic getting though there is such a freaking wildcard and could completely throw that off. I'm a big fan of the drive from Chattanooga to Brevard on US64, but you have to realize it ain't Interstate. A good thing is to go one way going and the other coming back, if you like to mix things up like I do.

I drove from Cashiers to Chattanooga that route at night last October. This is a drive that should be during the daylight hours for sure.

That's not even bad. Try US129 from Maryville to Robbinsville.
