Renting a car in Ukraine

What hoops would need to be jumped through in regards to a driving license, etc? The rates are super reasonable through Hertz and I believe my Amex covers insurance on car rentals globally.

My gf speaks Russian so would be able to serve as copilot / co-navigator.

Normally, your US driver's license is accepted. However, I would recommend getting an international driving permit. It simply translates the authenticity of your license into multiple languages so there is no confusion if you happen to be stopped or questioned. They are very cheap, last 1 year, and can be bought at triple A.

Kiev is a long way from there. I wanted to go to Kiev on the trip I just got back from but it was a little too far from Vilnius.

I second this. The international permit covers all of your bases.

Carry some extra cash to bribe the cops with, too.

My brother is touring eastern Europe. His pictures made me wave to check out Ukraine and Poland. Never thought those places would have so much to see.
