I don't have any help, but would love a review after your trip. Planning to head down there at some point this year, but haven't booked anything yet.

we were there 5 to 6 years ago for a wedding. some in our group had air conditioning issues, other than that great location. Heard the place was for sale a while back, not sure if it has changed hands or not. Sail boat ride & snorkel along the way to cay corker was nice. Cay corker more primitive and laid back. hire a local to go reef fishing. bum around drink, eat, listen to music. Females in our group out way late walking the beach from a club and got purse stolen. Start early finish early. Have fun.

I will need to correct the pics, looks like all of the links are broken but there is plenty to read up on Ambergris Caye. Have fun and report back!

Snorkeling is a must. You can get a boat to take you out for a few hours for about $60. Belikin isn't very tasty, but it's the national beer of Belize so you'll learn to like it. When I was there, there was a ton of seaweed that stank the place up. Pretty sure it was just that year (2015). Walking along the beach is nice. There are a lot of bars you can drop in and enjoy a tasty beverage.

If Palapa's has been rebuilt I'd go there but I don't know if they've recovered from the hurricane damage.

Just looked at their website and it looks like they have a new location and are open for business but it won't be the same. Still, a good time.

Thanks for the help guys. Will definately report back on the resort. Will be there May 5th-12th. Staying in a beachfront honeymoon suite. My wife and I, as well as the couple we are going with SCUBA dive so we will be making atleast 3 dive days including a trip to the blue hole, I believe. Also considering cave tubing and ziplining, and visiting the ruins one day.

As for the bars, you can walk to these bars on the beachfront?

Yes, all of the bars are beachfront. Just walk right up.

Day trip for snorkeling/cruising/casual fishing/drinking on a catamaran, I highly recommend No Rush Sailing. We've gone out with Captain Steve several times. The boat isn't brand new, but they take INCREDIBLE care of you and your party.

Had a great meal at Elvi's Kitchen. Short walk from Ramon's.

Take a water taxi or golf cart down to Victoria House for drinks and dinner. Off of the strip, secluded and very laid back. Women will love it and you and the boys can drink good booze and smoke cigars there.

Have fun.

Went a few years back for a wedding. Ramons was nice, not great. Food was not bad, snorkeling off their pier was really good. Get a golf cart and explore the whole island. There are lots of fun things to do. For sure get some local street food, they are out at night. They have a restaurant where you can feed tarpon, it is pretty good, I think it is called sunset grille. We went during the start of lobster season and it was great.

Breakfast at Estel's.

Blue Hole is an all day thing due to distance from San Pedro, and have been told it's not worth that much time, but I have no opinion as I decided against going.

I recommend a night dive while there, big grouper come out at night as do schools of tarpon.
Take the inexperienced of the crew to Hol Chan Reserve for a swim with nurse sharks and rays and easy snorkeling along the reef.

Dinner at Elvi's.

Do a mainland tour of a ruin, we did Lamanai. Be advised it's a 12+ hour day.

Don't expect long strolls on the beach or much snorkeling from the shore.

Before I start, the best piece of advice I can give is to take the plane ride to and from Belize City to San Pedro.
It is so worth it. Really worth it. Bigly. Yuuugely worth it.
If you take the boat to go do your zip lining tour, it'll just confirm how right I am about this. Especially when you are ready to go home after diving all week.

A company in Miss bought out Ramon, but he is still there from time to time.

I am very surprised by this. Most locals know not to mess with tourist income. Although, they are probably not above stealing from each other. Just be smart about where you are and when you go, and you should be fine.

We did all of this, and I would recommend doing it again. The cave tubing and zip lining was neat. And we went late May, so it still wasn't too hot and humid. We had recently visited Chichen Itza just before we went to Belize. So, I can't comment on the ruins tours.
Ramon's isn't as fancy as the places further north on Ambergris Caye, but it is probably the best as far as scuba diving convenience. If you are going to dive Belize, it's Ramon's.

All of this. Snorkeling was just ok though. And it is still kinda a 3rd world country. So, don't expect it to be Miami or Destin and appreciate it for what it is.

This is true. I got fairly sea sick on the way there and back, but I scratched it off of my bucket list. A really cool experience. I'm glad I did it, but I don't think I would do it again.... unless we sky dived above it. I think that would be super cool.

We went to Hidden Treasure Restaurant and Victoria House. Both were terrific meals. Hidden Treasure's Ceviche is still the best I've ever had.
We drove a cart up to Tiki Maya Bar & Grill and enjoyed our afternoon exploring the northern part.
We stopped in at The Office Bar on the west side of San Pedro to watch a sunset.
We ate at the restaurant at Ramon's a few times because we were tired from diving all day, but it's just ok.

We went fishing one day with a local guide. That was fun.

Relax. Dive safe. Stay away from drugs. The Cuban cigars aren't real. Have a great time!

Thanks for the input. We are thinking of doing 1 of the offshore dive trips. Still debating the blue hole just to see it really. Was possibly thinking of doing the Turneffe Elbow as well, any input on this? And as far as the blue hole trip, how were the other 2 dives included in the trip?

We didn't do turneffe.
We somewhat had more fun on the other dives on the blue hole trip. Way more reef and fish life. I like getting up close to the coral and appreciating the colors or watching it move with the current. My wife loves looking and interacting with the fish.

However, what makes the blue hole so cool is that there aren't many places like it on earth. It's a cave that's roof has collapsed. And that makes it a very unique site.
Blue hole is like descending into an eerie and quiet underwater world. It's dark and foreign and a little scary, and it feels like you are in a place you don't belong.
There wasn't much fish life aside from a few sharks that wanted to tag along. You can swim underneath the overhangs as you ascend. But because you dive so deep, the dive isn't very long.

Read up on turneffe. I have heard great things. We'll likely do it our next time down there, but blue hole was a big item on my bucket list. So, I had to cross it off. Don't let me persuade you one way or the other. I'm just trying to help out.

I agree that you should probably only do one offshore site per trip. There are enough other things to do in Belize with that time.

Im kind of in the same mindset. Its kind of hard being a diver visiting Belize for the first time and not going to the blue hole. Although, I already know that the Turneffe would probably be a much better dive. How deep did yall go? Im pretty content with going to 100ft unless I will see something unbelivable at 130

Stayed at Ramons in Oct 2016 - freaking love it. Don't think I would stay anywhere else on the island.

One thing, there is no alcohol at the bar for diving safety reasons (long story short: they lost a dive instructor a few years back). However if you're done diving, they have no problem with you bringing rum/beer to drink around the pool, just pour it in a cup.

Of course, they will always let you do what you are comfortable with, and we had several people decide to hang above 100ft.

I believe the dive is set to 120-130ft to see the good stuff, which includes the shelf, stalactites, and enjoy the ascent.

It all really depends on your experience and comfort level.

Did the Blue Hole and went to 135 ft. Not much to see but some big sharks and stalactites. It was cool to experience though. The other two dives and the lunch on the uninhabited island is worth the trip alone. I would go.

Wanted to do Turneffe but couldn't get enough people to go when we were there. I plan on going back and doing that or maybe even staying at BlackBird Caye out there.

Here are some pics from Ambergris Caye when we went last year.

The airport in Belize City there is a bat called Jet's Bar...the small dude is crazy and loves women and has absolutely no tact or manners, it's awesome. Get a hotdog and cocktail...

DEFINITELY take the puddle jumper flight to San Pedro, the time you save is huge and the views are kick arse.

Some friends of ours own a condo at Las Terrazzas so we had a free place, however it was north of town quite a bit. We would probably also stay at Ramon's if we went back.

Fido's is one of the more popular places to go eat at night, it's probably the spot that locals avoid the most.

This place had lobster burritos, tacos, soups, etc.... all with shite tons of meat and very much on the cheap. Cash only.

I would suggest getting a golf cart for at least 1 day and drive around to see different shite.

Estel's a a hotspot for breakfast...sandy floors so eat barefoot. Very cool spot.

This place had the cheapest beer/liquor on the island.

Pics from our fishing/snorkel trip with Clem Caliz. Go with him, he's a big LSU fan and will give you a good deal if you mention LSU. Conch ceviche made during the trip from what we dove down to get.

not my nasty hands

Thanks for the input and pics. We plan on renting a cart the first day just to go scope the area and see where all we want to go.
