Looking to take the gf for a quick beach weekend sometime in early August. Aiming towards Gulf Shores, Pensacola, Destin, or somewhere around that area.

We would be coming from New Orleans, so just a Thursday/Friday - Sunday type deal.

I was just curious what type of prices should be reasonable for a beach front hotel or condo per night this time of year? And where is the best place to hunt the deals? Beach front and clean are the only real requirements.

I've been a bunch with family, but never had to book it, nor have I gone with just 1 other person, so I didn't know how to gauge the prices of around $350-450/night that I'm seeing on the big booking sites for decent hotels.

TIA

You're definitely going during peak rate time right before the kids all go back to school. In Gulf Shores, check out the Phoenix All-Suites hotel. Beachfront and usually cheaper than the condos. While technically a hotel, all the units are really 1 bed, 1.5 bath condos with a full kitchen.

Yeah like the other poster said, you aren't going to find many special deals in early August. You can work the VRBO.com site to see if you can save a little, but I doubt it will be worth your time.

Prices will be all over the place depending on what type of property and what area. When we started going on our family beach trips back in 08-09 things were much cheaper and there were good deals. These days, not so much.

With that short of a stay, I would just go to Orange Beach. The Phoenix properties are the cheaper option, but I never had a problem with any of them when we used to stay in that area.

For hotels there is a Hampton Inn there that was pretty nice as well as a Hilton Garden Inn.

If you want to spend a little more, there is a placed called the Perdido Beach Resort that I always thought would be nice for a couples trip.

If you want to be away from things a little more, look at the Beach Club in Fort Morgan.

Do you need nightlife and action? If not, Navarre might be your best bet as far as pricing goes. You'd only be a short drive from Destin and Pensacola if you wanted to do some shopping or bar hopping.

We are doing the Phoenix West II next Wednesday through the following Tuesday morning. Huge four bedroom condo for $3600 for the week for three families--11 people total.

This condo has a water slide and lazy river and is right on the beach.

I'm looking for restaurants for dinner--
1. Have been to Fishers and not a fan
2. Oyster house is on the list
3. Shrimp basket is on the list
4. What other recommendations?

We have five kids with us ranging from 3-7.

It's not necessary, but it would be an added bonus. We are in our mid 20's, so a bar/restaurant one night would be enjoyable. Not high maintenance by any means though.

I just didn't know what to expect price wise. Figured it was the busy season, but just wanted to be safe. I was initially just looking in Pensacola, but it seems Bama areas might be a better price for essentially the same amenities.

Let me know if you have any questions. We have had it since November and are still learning the ropes. It's a good looking condo and well kept property

FWIW, went to Oyster House when we were down from 7/1 to 7/8 and it was average or worse at best for the price. Go to Sea and Suds for great seafood. Oysters and skrimps were 1st class. We had a condo at Gulf Shores Plantation over by Ft. Morgan about 12 miles W. of the main strip in Gulf shores on 182. Not a terrible drive unless you wanna be in the middle of everything Was $197 a night and we had 3 couples.

Other places we ate were Lulu's, Tacky Jack's, Sassy Bass(one location was at the condos we stayed at), the restaurant that is across the street from and owned by FloraBama and a coupla places at the Wharf. Not fine dining by any stretch but most places were ok sans the Oyster House.

Sea n Suds is a good rec. I like Fishers a lot and think Oyster House is average and Shrimp Basket is God awful so I didn't know what to suggest to him. The original Doc's would be another good spot that's a similar type place but just a lot better.

Op, go as late in August as you can. Rates drop a ton, as I said in the other thread the 3rd week in August is often 50% of the first week. This late, I'd recommend waiting until last minute like a week or less out. Most 1 bedroom condos book closer to last minute but 1 week out is make a great deal time and that 2nd and 3rd week in August people should be really wanting to book you.

Phoenix X is next door to the Flora-Bama.
I'm guessing most people on a trip with their lady wouldn't think of that as a plus though. LOL

Rates drop big time the Tuesday after Labor Day for sure. We are planning a trip that week. Rates drop 35-40% most places. Just in time for peak hurricane season.

I was checking VRBO last week for a similar type deal, but I needed 2 bedrooms. I found plenty in the $300/night range for a 4 night minimum. No, they weren't Turquoise Place style, but they were more than decent places. For a single bed, you can easily find ones at less than $400/night in a condo.
