Prague/Vienna/Budapest food & drink recs

Also, Charles Bridge at night is magical. You will be tired after walking all day on those uneven stone streets and sidewalks, but take a nap if necessary to experience the bridge at night.

ETA: We had an airbnb, and one day decided to go to the nearby grocery store to get a few things. We got cream for coffee, three types of cheese, crackers, a bottle of wine, and maybe one other thing...it was less than $6. So if you really want value, go to the grocery store.

Mak bistro in Budapest is very good. I walked to the restaurant Costes, which I think has a Michelin star, and saw Mak across the street, looked at the menu, and ended up eating there instead. It's a casual place, great wine selection, really good food and great service. Also the restaurant in the Ritz Carlton is really good, also has great service, and occasionally has live music. Budapest has a great wine country, the people are very proud of Hungarian wines, and they should be, they are very good.

At one time I flew in and out of Vienna. I stayed at the hotel just across the street from the airport, which was very convenient and it was a nice hotel. From there you can take a bus or subway directly into the center of town, not too far from St. Stephens Cathedral. I would just walk around and enjoy the atmosphere. I was only there on overnight layovers. But there are alot of places to eat. Most people spoke enough english to help you out.

Prague is another very walkable city. I spent a couple days there. Took a walking tour of the city. Ate chinese food there, which wansnt bad. I stayed at a hotel about a 20 to 30 min walk from Wenseclas Square but I don't remember the name, it was a cheaper hotel. If you want to check out a beer hall and have a few go to Ufleku Ufleku. Be sure to use the subway to get around, its easy.

Budapest was probably my favorite. Nice sights, great public transportation, easy to walk around, and I found a cheap hotel and a great restaurant behind it. I stayed on the Buda (castle side) of the city at Hotel Orion Varkert, which was a Best Western at the time. Basic and cheap but nice and a great location. Free typical european breakfast in the lobby. Just behind the hotel is a great small restaurant called Tebani Terasz Tebani Terasz Facebook. In all of my european travels that was the best food I ever had. And for you Baws, there is a red-light district on the Pest side close to the river. The sweet wine is very good. Also check out the Gellert Hotel and go into the spa/baths. Funny story about that place: a couple months after i was there i was checking out some euro porn. Guess where they were getting in on at? Yep, that same pool I was swimming around in.

I actually had some of the best Pizza I've ever had in Prague a little over a decade ago. Tons of wood-fired brick pizzas.
