Possibly visiting for a week in mid May. Advice on where to stay, eat, drink, and things to do/see would be greatly appreciated. Search didn't turn up much. TIA.

Just went for a day trip this past Saturday. It's a great little city and I hope you like beer.
We just jumped from brewery to brewery and had a great time.
Check out:
Allagash
Rising Tide
Maine Brewing Company (technically in Freeport, but that's really close by)
Bissell Brothers
Bunker Brewing Company
Liquid Riot
Foundation
For lunch one day, go to Otto Pizza. They have a potato, bacon, and scallion pizza that sounds odd but is absolutely amazing.

Portland Head Light on Cape Elizabeth.

Maine is the best. Spent a little time in Portland, not enough to give advice. Really enjoyed Ogunquit area though.
Could always go see the Bush compound in Kennebunkport

Been to Kennebunkport, you can take lobster cruises and whale watching tours that go right by Walker Point. Will probably see secret service patrolling and no cell phone usage around compound.

The lighthouse in York, just south of Kennebunk is one of most photographed lighthouses, they have rock formations you can walk out on to get really good views.

Shipyard Brewery is also a good one. Tour takes about an hour and generous samples given. Depending on your budget, Hugo's was one of the best meals I've eaten. But wasn't cheap and this was about 7 years ago. As others have said, it's a great city with plenty to do. You'll enjoy.

Is Portland pretty walkable as a whole, or is there a certain part of town that is easier to navigate when walking?
I'll be in Boston in 2 weeks visiting my main squeeze and we have talked about taking the Downeaster up there for the weekend, but he doesn't want to have to drive at all, so we want to be able to do fun stuff on foot.

Eh, it's not really that walkable. You're going to be driving around a bit to get everywhere worth going. The downtown area is fairly walkable and nice, but a lot of the great breweries and things to do aren't downtown.

Thank you! This is exactly what I have been Googling all day with no definitive answer. I should have just asked you first.

No problem. Enjoy Boston, hopefully it will warm up a bit more before you get here. But it's been a mild winter overall so you should be fine.

Sorry to hijack your thread but we're thinking of flying into Portland on a Thursday then driving to Camden for Thursday and Friday night. Coming back to Portland Saturday evening.
What's Camden like? Enough to do for two days?

Cape Elizabeth is beautiful and a must see.
Great little lobster restaurant near the sister lighthouse in the area right on the ocean.
Bar Harbor is several hours north but worth the drive. Very cool town!!!

Camden is nice and an easy drive from Portland. I don't know about 2 days there but it is definitely worth a day. Can always use it as a base to drive up or down coast.
Portland is very underrated. Great downtown with lots of great restaurants: Fore Street, Street & Company, Scales, Grace and others. Can definitely get around the best parts of Portland on foot. Great place.
