with all the riots...wish me luck.

that being said. weather looks pretty cold....even possible snow mix. I wanted to get up to Mt. Hood to ski but conditions seem to call for chains on tires so dk if ill make it.

Any other destinations I should check out? Esp of the food and drink variety?

Riverplace is a nice, but there's not much right there. McCormick and Schmicks is there, and a couple of restaurants.

Honestly, there are a ton of local bistros that you can find once you start heading towards the Pearl district, which is North of Burnside from where you are.

If you want to find some breweries, Deschutes, 10 Barrel, and Fatheads are all within a few blocks of each other. Once you get up that way, bars and Restaurants are easy to find. I'm older, so I don't know where to go if you're looking for clubs.

If you really want to geek out on beer, go to Great Notion and Breakside Brewing in the NE side. You can also hit a bunch of spots if you Uber over to Cascade Barrel House and check out The Commons, Hair of the Dog, Growler Guys, and Loyal Legion. I recommend Base Camp Brewery in the evenings - their outside area is cool, with a bunch of fire pits to hang out around, and the view of downtown Portland is great from there.

Good options range from some really great food carts on the cheap end to some great fine dining options.

If you're looking for a nice day trip over the weekend, drive east out I-84 to Hood River. Hit up Multnomah Falls on the way.

Nice! I will have to check out some of those breweries. I def will check out Base Camp. Might be cold to sit outside but I will check it out.

I plan on going to the falls. Just hope the weather holds up.

Best brewery in Hood River is pFriem, right on the Columbia River. Double Mountain Brewing has great pizza, and Full Sail Brewery has great panoramic views of the gorge from the hillside.

It may be a bit chilly, but dress in layers and you'll enjoy yourself. I wouldn't worry in the least about the riots. If they are on the streets, then that means the restaurants and bars are less crowded.

I will also have kids with me. I know they have a children's museum. Also heard OMSI is cool. Any suggestions there?

OK. That changes it up a little. Breweries that serve food allow kids in. All of the breweries I have mentioned serve food, with the exception of Base Camp, which has permanent food trucks - I'm 90% sure I've seen kids there. I would think that Base Camp would be fun for kids, as you can do S'mores outside on the fire pits. Many of the breweries brew their own root beer, as well, so that can be fun for them to figure out their favorite.

Powell's Bookstore is a few doors down from Deschutes Brewpub. Powells is huge and easy to get lost in for a while. Lots of stuff for the kids to look at there, as well.

OMSI is fun - it's just across the river from where you're staying. The Oregon Zoo is just west of downtown in Washington Park, and there is a children's museum right there, too. It's a beautiful drive.

I'm going to say that because of President Trumps reversal of the bathroom EO, there may be a little more activity downtown. Most of that will probably be in the vicinity of 4th/5th Avenue from Burnside southward. It should be pretty safe, though.

Salt and Straw is a great place to take them for Ice Cream, and Apizza Scholls or Ken's Artisan Pizza. Apizza Scholls has a lot of old-fashioned video games consoles for the kids - Pac Man, and that sort of thing. There is a food cart pod on 10th and Alder that has 60 food carts - so the kids would have a lot to choose from. Might be chilly eating outside, so you might want to plan on taking your food back to the hotel. Some of the food cart pods have heated tents to eat in, but I don't believe that one does.

Take your kids to the Saturday Market down on the river near the Burnside Bridge. You can do Voodoo donuts afterwards, if you want to do the touristy thing...

Farmer's market might be fun, too, but it's probably sparse this time of year.

Try to have dinner at The Allison or The Painted Lady. Worth the drive...esp Painted Lady.

Never mind....kids won't work at either place.

Second Powell Books and Salt and Straw. Would 100% drive out to the gorge. It's pretty incredible.

If you go to Powell Books, Deschutes Brewpub is on the next block. It can be busy on the weekend, but it's really nice and their food is excellent. Upscale pub grub. With kids, I would go in the middle of the afternoon for a late lunch to avoid a wait.

It's required that you carry chains. If you have a capable vehicle and know how to drive on snow you won't need them. The area is very well maintained.

If you have kids with you take them cosmic tubing at ski bowl. It's just before the Timberline ski entrance.

Just got back from Portland last week.

Hit up Screen Door for breakfast, and if you like ping pong go to Pips & Bounce.

Too little too late. I didn't see this until now. If you go back, get a flight of their beers.

Fatheads has OK food. I like Deschute's food a lot better. I'm guessing Fatheads was less busy than either 10 Barrel or Deschutes, so that is good when you have kids...

Post some pics and tell us what you enjoyed when you get back...
