Places to stay in Charleston, SC

I am looking to take my wife to Charleston and was needing some recommendations on where to stay. We will be there for a long weekend. Any recommendations on where to stay and things to do are appreciated.
About $300 a night, maybe more if needed.

I stayed on King street and had a hell of a time. Then again I'm 21 and single

Depends on how much you want to spend. My wife and I went a month ago and stayed at the Hampton Inn right off King. It was fine and less expensive than most. There are some really nice hotels if you want to go all out. Either way get one in the historical district downtown.

Do you mean Charleston, SC?
If so you can stay somewhere downtown, though those places can be pricey. Downtown is very walkable. Some other places on the Ashley River side of downtown have shuttles that will take you to the Market Street area. There are some hotels just over the Ravenel bridge in Mount Pleasant that are good options as well and would only be a short Uber ride to downtown or you could go to some of the bars/restaurants on Shem Creek.

Charlestown and Charleston are 2 completely different places. Are you sure you know where you are going?

If you're talking about Charleston, SC, just stay near Kig Street and you'll be fine.

I wish we knew his budget. It'd help a lot since places down there can go from fairly cheap to crazy expensive.
However, if not staying directly downtown, just pick one of the hotels in Mt. Pleasant.

If you're talking about Charleston S.C. My wife and I stayed at The Cabell House B&B. I enjoyed it.

I have stayed at the Francis Marion which is in a perfect location, but a bit on the pricier side.
The Hyatt place is farther down king street, but still not a bad walk and near some good restaurants. It was pretty nice.

There are a ton of places on the peninsula, and so many things are within walking distance.
You can also stay on the beach - look at a condo on Isle of Palms, we stay there every time we go - Island Realty has some great deals.
Things to do - there are so many things, it really depends on what you like.
Several of the old plantations are open to visit - Boone Hall in Mt. Pleasant right of US 17; Middleton Place and Magnolia Plantation are up SC 61 (Ashley River Road) about 20 minutes out of downtown. Also, Drayton Hall (next door to Magnolia) was built in the early 1700s and has survived intact without any modern updates.
If you like history, Fort Sumter (accessible only by boat; tours depart from Charleston by the Aquarium and Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant) and Fort Moultrie (Sullivan's Island) each played big parts in the Revolution and Civil War. If you like military history, you can tour an aircraft carrier, destroyer and submarine at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant.
The Charleston Tea Plantation on Wadlamaw Island is the only place in the US that grows/produces tea. They show you the fields and show you how they process the leaves once they are harvested. Firefly Vodka is made in the area as well and they have tours of the distillery.
The Charleston aquarium is nice. Walking or horse drawn tours of Charleston are amazing because of the architecture. Several of the old homes on the Battery (tip of the peninsula) are open to tour as well.

Good info, if he is going to that Charleston and not Charlestown or Charles Town.
