Wife has a work conference in April so I'm tagging along and will have about 2-3 days in the city to myself. Will catch a Pirates game but any other suggestions where to go, what to do, where to eat? Will have a rental car.

Definitely take a day trip to Fallingwater.

Food: Primanti Bros is good.

If you like a look at different cultures and history, the different classrooms in the Cathedral of Learning was very cool.

Was there a few years back for my brother's wedding. Caught a Cubs/Pirates night game....great ballpark. The zoo there is pretty nice. I really wish we had taking a trip out to Fallingwater but never made it.

We LOVED the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, but I've always been fascinated with dinosaurs so it may have appealed to me a bit more than the average visitor.

Kennywood has some good roller coasters but I doubt they're open in April.

No it isn't, it is not good at all but you should eat there once just so you can say you did.

I'd recommend spending a couple hours walking around the strip district and downtown. Thin Man sandwiches and Penn Ave Fish company are both real good in the strip district. Meat and Potatoes downtown in good. Carson street is fun at night and my go to there is Fat Heads Saloon. Great beers and pretty good novelty size sandwiches.

It's a small city without a ton to do imo, but you have a car so you could travel a bit. Morgantown is close by as is Cleveland and both worth seeing for a day.

The downtown area around Primanti brothers is interesting. All kinds of foods and market items. Primanti was just ok to me. If they had left the fries off the sandwich would have been better. They have a nice Cabelas there too but the airport was always my high point.

Mohan's has the best chicken wings. They're on Saltsburg Road in the Penn Hills/Plum area.

Vincent's Pizza in Forest Hills is great.

If you like baseball history, Pitt's campus has part if the Forbes Field outfield wall and one of the campus buildings has home plate on display in its original location.

If you catch a ball game, Manny Sanguillen has a BBQ place at PNC Park.

Cleveland > mOrgantown

Unless there's an athletic contest at WVU I wouldn't go to Morgantown on a dare.

Primanti Bros: OK, so you don't like it. I did. I didn't say it was great, just good.

I agree with this. I've been there twice and for a "big city" it just kinda felt pretty empty to me.

OP: you could use Thrillist to get some ideas

Take the backstage tour of the Pirates stadium. It is a really good tour with a good bit of access including locker rooms on non-game days, dugout, batting cages and press box among other locations...

Thanks for the suggestions, am a big campus/stadium guy so probably going to visit Pitt and WVU in Morgantown and maybe tour Heinz Field. Hadn't heard of Fallingwater may give that a shot.

I think you need to get the backstage tickets for the Pirates ahead of time, they sell out.
