Thinking about flying into San Diego and traveling up all the way to Portland OR. Anyone done anything similar? Must do stops?

We preferred driving North to South which puts you on the Pacific/beach side rather than the mountain but you'll love it either way especially in a convertible.

we drove the Oregon portion of it in April. it is beautiful, but some bad storms popped up and made it tense for a bit

Ate a killer steak in Eureka, CA at some Victorian Inn...or maybe that was Fort Bragg. At any rate, the Klamath River boat tours out of Crescent City are probably a must do.
I think the northern California coast has so much charm. It's mysterious, and the complete opposite of shitty arse Louisiana.
