Looking to take the wife to NYC for 2 or 3 days at christmas. Anybody got any suggestions on what to do and see. Also where would be a good place to stay? This would be both of ours first trips to NYC.

I would go with this exact list plus Chinatown for shopping and little italy for lunch or dinner, they're right next to one another as well

What's the draw of World Trade? I guess I haven't seen the finished product. Was always awkward watching tourist take pictures of a hole in the ground.

I still like to catch the Rockettes Christmas show.

Hotel I would stay midtown and select based on prize as long as it is a national brand

Place near Madison Square is a shite hole I think.

There is a hotel near Columbus Circle that has a full window to shower into room. Room is tiny but if you want to get it up a notch romantically lol

Was actually there with my family this past December 25-30 and had a blast. I had not been since I was 13, so I basically consider this my first time up there.

We saw Jersey Boys & The Book of Mormon for Broadway shows. Toured NBC Studios (booked ahead of time) which was really cool. Got a walking tour (about 2 hours) around the 911 memorial which I highly recommend, then went into the museum for a couple of hours. The walking tour was really cool since we were in a group of about 15, it was much more personal and our guide was great. I went to the Met, MoMA, and Natural History Museum, all of which I really enjoyed. Also took obligatory pics in front of the Rockefeller Christmas tree. Rickshaw ride through Central Park was cool too.

Great time of year to go, pretty cool to see the city all decorated with lights, etc.

ETA: we stayed at the Intercontinental New York Barclay in midtown which was great.

OP, depending on the weather, use the double decker busses, maybe ice skate bryant park. catch a show, get snow globe from saks, do some shopping, head to soho, china town, little italy during the day. Some people like to walk the Brooklyn bridge .

with 2-3 days. I'd just have 2-3 main things to do and some fillers here and there

I just spent this past Christmas in NYC and had a good time. First, I might recommend checking AirBnB before booking a hotel. We rented a 3b/2ba apartment in Flat Irons for the 6 of us and it was a much nicer experience than when I stay in a hotel there.

Since it's your first time, I'm sure you'll want to do a lot of the touristy stuff: Times Square, Check out the tree at 30 Rock, maybe see the Rockettes, ice skating in Central Park, etc.

I was also just in NY this week for work, and there's always something to do. I highly recommend setting aside at least half a day to go to the 9/11 Museum.
