I am in the early stages of planning a Hawaii Vacation next year. We will be there 6-7 nights. What islands should be required to visit and if you have any recommendations on what to do, that would be great. What is the easiest way to island jump if needed?

For 6-7 days honestly I'd probably just do 1 island or maybe Oahu plus 1 since you will most likely fly into there. You could do Pearl Harbor, haunama bay, Waikiki and north shore in 2 days. Then fly to Maui or Kauai.

It really depends on what you do. I lived there for 3 years and I personally think most in the south would be better off just doing to Caribbean to lay on the beach. So id go to Oahu and the big island personally, but everyone is different.

Honestly - I could not disagree more with baldona. I thought Kauai was literally, for lack of a better phrase, paradise on earth.

Picking an island really depends on what you like to do. Kauai hands down if you like outdoor activities. We love to hike so we picked Kauai. Maui is a good mix of everything and we wish to go there next. If you want to go shop you could go to Waikiki (or Houston/Dallas/NYC really).

Hawaiin airlines is the best way to island hop. Although if you only have 6-7 days, I would suggest against going to more than 1 island.

Kauai is the best all-around island because it is scenic and has beaches, hiking, and the Nepali Coast, which is a must-see. Ke'e Beach is really nice there as well. I would probably do half the trip in Oahu and half in Kauai. Check out Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, and all of the different shores of Oahu. Maybe hit a luau too if that sounds like something that you would like.

Or you could do what I did and take a Hawaiian Cruise out of Honolulu. It was a Norwegian cruise ship, and it took us to the Big Island, Maui, and Kauai for 2 days each. I also spent a few days on Oahu before the cruise took off. It's pretty tough to go wrong in Hawaii though. It's a beautiful place

I'm a massive advocate of the fact that anything less than a full week on Kauai is too little. We went there for a week, had 0 "pool days" in our awesome resort and only then were able to see and do everything and that too barely.

You are going to Hawaii. Just relax and see one island completely instead of wasting your time at, to and from airports and in airplanes.

For the first trip and being only 7 days you could visit Oahu and Maui and get two very different experiences. Oahu could give you Pearl, Waikiki, Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay and on Maui you relax a lot more. Maybe sunrise tour at Halleakala, road to Hana, catch a Luau.

As for logistics if visiting two islands fly into Oauhu (stay near Waikiki, learn the bus system and use uber and you won't need a car), then jump to Maui and fly home from there. Airfare like that should be about $1200 per person. In Maui, you will need/want a car a lot more than Oahu )unless visiting the northshore in Oahu is a necessity.

Did Oahu and Maui for my honeymoon. Pretty solid advice upthread. If I went again, I'd definitely check out Kauai.

We stayed in Waikiki for the first week, got our party on and drove the North Shore. If you go to Oahu, spend one day on the North Shore, and go to Waimea Bay...it's a great beach

The second week we stayed in Maui at the Westin in Kaanapali. Drove to Lahaina a few nights. Saw Annabelle and Warren's magic show, which was fun. Only regret is we didnt do the Road to Hana...we drove around most of the rest of the island, though.

All in all....you will not be short on things to do. Hawaii is the kind of place where you can just sit and stare at your surroundings and feel like you're having a great experience.

I had posted previously about a Hawaiian cruise and most of the responses were negative. Said it was not the way to see Hawaii. How was your experience and would you do it again?

I don't recommend spending much time on Oahu. Go see Pearl Harbor and take the next flight out to Maui and or Kuai.

I would also get the Hawaii "Revealed" books that they have for each island. They have some real good information for hikes and activities.
