Morning Flight From NYC To London - Anyone Done This?

Afternoon Everyone,
Has anyone ever taken an early morning flight from NYC to London? I'm thinking of doing this in a few months to avoid the giant jet lag, not to mention what will probably be much smaller immigration lines at Heathrow when it's supper time.
The plan would be to get a hotel room the night before flying out, and on the way back, I'd arrive at JFK around 2:30pm and take a flight back to NOLA around 7:00pm.
I'm assuming I would be going through immigration/TSA at JFK, and then having to collect luggage and go back through TSA for the flight to NOLA?
Any advice/thoughts are appreciated!

I've never done it but the standard flights are standard for a reason, they are the best way to avoid jet lag imo.
Let's say you leave at 7am out of JFK, 6 hour flight plus 6 hour time difference gets you in at 7pm but it's only 1pm NY time. So you are going to need to go to bed at let's say midnight which would be 6pm NYC time. If you can manage that then great.

Who flies that? What is the flight schedule?
Why dont you just take the direct from MSY to LHR? Its a great flight on the way there as it leaves late at night and you land at noon or so.

Because you're jet lagged like crazy - and then you have to stay up for a long time before you go to bed, and then that first day is totally rough.
If you get into London at 8pm, it would be pretty easy to get to bed by midnight, I'd think.
Several airlines do morning flights from NYC, Boston, and at least one other city (can't remember).

Sounds like a good plan. I just did a trip to Lisbon and landed at 9am. Staying awake for 12 hours was brutal.

The overnight flight from MSY to LHR does not leave you jet lagged in the least....you board at 9:15 pm. So eat a heavy dinner at 6:45 or so, head to the airport, board at 9:15 pm, have a cocktail or glass of wine to relax, decline the in flight meal. Watch a movie & then go to sleep (eye mask, pillow, noise cancelling headphones, seat by the window so you can lean on the wall, sleeping pill if so inclined). If you manage 4-6 hrs of sleep, you'll be plenty rested to enjoy the day once you land in London.
I would NOT like sitting in planes and airports for most of the day, then arriving late in the evening. That's a recipe for falling asleep for 2-3 hrs and then being wide awake in the middle of the night....

Dude, I've done it. Some people can't sleep on planes at all. Trust me, I was freaking miserable that first day in London. So that's why I'm trying to see if anyone has tried the opposite approach.
Hopefully somebody out there has!

I've landed at just about every time of the day after long flights. I cannot sleep on flights, other than 10-15min at a time. If I land during the day (which I prefer), I get some caffeine to power through and then sleep like a baby that night. If I land at night, I just take a sleep aid and get in a real bed.

I'm the same. I probably get 1.5 hours of sleep (broken up) on an 8 hr overseas flight.
But I prefer to get in mid day and power through until about 8-9, sleep well then I'm good to go. Once out of the airport and at my destination I'm usually distracted enough to avoid crashing for 6 hours or so.
