Mexico City Airport Shut Down from Earthquake
Posted by CuseTiger on 9/19/17 at 4:17 pm00
Hopefully no one was headed down there anytime soon. Airport is shut down and pictures do not look good. Hearing reports that there is damage to the control tower so it may be a little bit before everything is reopened, although Delta did manage to get two flights out of there to ATL and DTW about 20 minutes ago so there may be a runway that is okay.

The international airport in Mexico City suspended operations after a massive earthquake on Tuesday, Luis Felipe Puente, head of the National Civil Protection Service said.
"The work is suspended at the international airport of Mexico City…until integrity checks of all infrastructure have been completed," Puente wrote in his Twitter blog.
An earthquake of magnitude 7.0 occurred on Tuesday near the town of Puebla de Zaragoza southeast of Mexico City.
According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), underground shocks were registered at 18:14 GMT. The epicenter was located 49 kilometers (some 30.5 miles) south-west of the city of Puebla de Zaragoza at a depth of 60 kilometers.

Holy shite check out the videos down Jorge's twitter feed
Those videos are horrifying. Also makes me think the collapses weren't localized, it looked like they were happening all over the city.

Crazy and sad. Probably at or near the top of my list of places I have visited. Great city.

Just think of all the buildings that sustained unknown structural damage.
