We are flying out of New Orleans on AMerican Airlines next month. I"ve been hearing about long TSA lines recently and was wondering if anyone has seem security lines longer than usual?

Depends on the timing and the concourse.

I rarely wait more than 10-15 min

if you aren't priority or precheck, you're going to be waiting a pretty long time nowadays

I've been 3 times in the last couple of months and the lines were out to the hallway

in the past I've never seen anything close to this so I'm curious to know what's going on

is American in the Delta terminal? That's where it's been bad. I know United is there.

Lines aren't bad compared to most airports. I signed up for Global Entry/TSA precheck. I got my conditional approval last week. The soonest follow up appointment was August 9! Government efficiency.

We just returned from South Bend yesterday afternoon and the security lines in Terminal D at MSY were way past the end of the cattle ropes.

They were the same way last Tuesday morning when we departed to go to Notre Dame. I estimated 300-400 people waiting in line.

Fortunately, we paid to get on the TSA pre-approval check-in list last year so we only had about 10 people in our line. Breezed through security in about 2 minutes.

Global Entry/TSA precheck

It's not bad anywhere with this, but to non frequent flyers that don't have any sort of status or precheck, MSY is getting up there as one of the worst airports to check into. Denver is one of the worst if you haven't been through there before. All airlines from one TSA checkpoint to a pretty big international airport.

80 bucks for 5 years I believe and you can do it in an afternoon I believe

you aren't guaranteed precheck but you get it almost every time

ETA: That's if you want consistent precheck. The precheck line at MSY is nothing. Maybe a handful of people there, and a handful more in the priority line next to it. It's pretty quick and easy. Regular lines are another story in Terminal D

We applied for the pre-check approval on September 8, 2015 at the Baton Rouge office off of Bluebonnet Blvd and we received the email telling us we were approved and giving us our approval code numbers on September 12. About a week later we received a letter in the mail confirming our approval.

Not sure, honestly. I don't have it because I'm a cheapskate I may splurge and get it when I get home, though

I think it all happens that afternoon and you're good to go, but I'll let someone else chime in.

It costs $85. The process at the office in Baton Rouge took less than 20 minutes. You fill out a form, show them your passport and driver's license, they take your photo and your fingerprints and you're done.

We called in advance and made an appointment so our wait time was less than 5 minutes to see the person taking the applications.

While we were there we learned the same office is used for people to apply for food stamps so I highly recommend making an appointment before you go.

Isn't global entry just $15 more? I don't have either, but I might opt for that instead
