I absolutely enjoyed London. If there is anyone out there that is hesitant to do international travel then this is the city for you. Great public transportation, very safe, and you will immerse yourself in many different cultures. I would go for a couple days without hearing an American accent at all.

I took a direct flight from MSY to Heathrow. The Dreamliner was comfortable for me an I am 6'2. The entree's and tea were good and, unlike American carriers, the alcohol flowed at no extra cost. Make sure you get an Oyster card as it makes getting around so much easier. The London Tube is easy to navigate and you can download an app to help you figure out where you need to go. If you have ever used the DC Metro then you will feel right at home.

I stayed at the Hilton Hyde Park in Bayswater. Great price, fantastic location, and is a mere couple steps to the Queensway station. Something to consider when picking a location: Many places you will visit are in Zone 1 of the Tube. They cap how much you can be charged per day within travel of zone 1. So if you stay outside of zone 1 you may find yourself having to top off your oyster card. I went with 50 pounds and had .30 pence left over at the end of my trip. Anyways, this location also limited how many times I had to change tube lines.

The British Museum is a must see. Personally I was thrilled just to see the Rosetta Stone

Their collection is vast and entrance is free

Westminster Abbey is home to many tombs. It doesn't take long and is worth the stop. In fact, I did this, the Churchill War Rooms, walked to Trafalgar Square, and Buckingham Palace in just a few hours

I have to say the Churchill War Rooms were a bit lack luster for me. I wasn't disappointed that I went, but if you are tight on time then you may want to pass this one up.

Asian tourists/tour groups are a pain in the arse wherever you go. England is no exception. They get in the way and will dominate an area. Be aggressive. This particular woman almost got a good biting from the horse.

I booked an Inner Circle tour of Stonehenge with Evan Evans tours. This also included Windsor Palace and Oxford. Currently they do not let anyone in the inner circle except a max of 26 people before 9am.

This show shows the heel stone that they used to measure the solstice. It is the stone beyond the circle farthest out

Next we went to Oxford and this place was awesome. I wish I could have spent more time there. The vibe and architecture of the area was so unique.

These people dance to ward off evil spirits

Had a beer at the pub where C.S. Lewis and Tolkien used to drink and write

The Queen was in at Windsor Palace. It was her birthday and she actually popped out and we sang happy birthday to her. They asked us not to film so I have nothing to show for it.

I wanted to take a pic with the guards and was short on time. As I was waiting I found out the man next to me was the guard in the middle's father. Opted to use the father's camera to snap a pic with his son as long as he busted his balls and made him smile. He sure enough did

I headed over to the Tower of London and caught some of the London Marathon. Those people stood out there for hours to cheer on everyone. It was a shame to watch millenials go out there to take pics just to say they were there

The tower itself is mildly interesting. I would definitely say go there to admire the crown jewels. They really are amazing

Nice work. I've only been there for a short time and regret not making the British Museum.

Good report.

We went last fall and stayed at the Bloomsbury Hotel, down the street from the British Museum. Affordable and nice.

It's also steps away from the Tottenham Court Road Tube Station, which is pretty near the center point of the tube map.

There is tons to do in the city, but if you want to get out, we enjoyed going by tube/Docklands Light Railway to Greenwich. Toured the Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory, and hit the outdoor market. Came back to the city by Thames River taxi. It was neat to see the neighborhoods and countryside along the way.

Was just coming to post my report. Will be back in a day or do.

London is an incredible city. Really was surprised at how amazimg it is. Great blend of historic, modern, international, and sense of place.

Dreamliner direct is going to make it hard to travel across Atlantic any other way.

I headed over to the Natural History museum and Harrod's as well. The NH wasn't the best I've been to. DC's blows it out the water. Harrod's is worth the trip for the gourmet foods. As far as clothes, I can't bring myself to spend that much except maybe on a Burberry coat.

The London Eye is worth the time imo. You can pay to have Fast Track tickets and skip most of the que if you like. I did this as I needed to get to Greenwich as well that day.

The Thames taxis are the best way to get to Greenwich imo. They are just over 6 pounds each way and make for a nice, relaxing ride

It is worth going to the Royal Observatory to take your Prime Meridian pic! You'll enjoy the walk through Greenwich park and the hike up the hill to the observatory

Finally, I made my way to the Imperial War Museum. Free to enter and very much worth the trip. The first floor starts at WW1 and moves towards modern times as you make your way up.

I love London. Ive been twice and both times, we took a day where we would just go to the train station and pick a destination. Our first trip, we did Oxford choosing it over Stonehenge. We LOVED it. Had no idea the university was basically the whole town. Stopped at a few bars and was able to go into a few colleges even though it was exam week.

We stayed close to the Tower and Bridge both times and liked that part of town.

Great review.

j,
Here's a few shots from my iPhone camera of my trip over the past couple of weeks-

Tintern Abbey (Wales)
I checked the pocket of the rain coat I brought and found a stowaway.

Stonehenge, the single most impressive place for me-

Stratford-upon-Avon, Royal Shakespeare Company
Cleaning up between acts of "Julius Caesar"
The performance was wonderful and I'm not a play guy.

Liverpool Cemetery
Eleanor Rigby's Tombstone
Went on a Black Cab Beatles Tour over about 4 Hours. It was cool.

Paul & John met each other for the first time about 100 yards from this site.

Churchill's Grave in Bladon Cemetery
It's near Oxford and his family's manor house (Blenheim Palace)

The Imperial War Museum (London)
V-1 & V-2 missiles

London
Looking down the Thames from a pedestrian bridge.
St Paul's in the distance.

Portsmouth
HMS Victory, Nelson's Flagship
Saw the Mary Rose there as well.

Wells
Wells Cathedral Easter Morning before dawn

Thanks for sharing your review of London. Hopefully I'll be going over for a week at the end of September, first of October. Really gives me some things to look forward to seeing.

Thanks for posting. My wife and I dream of going to England and some other euro destination with castles and such when I retire...if we can afford it.
