Primanti Bros is their big go to sandwich place (I've never been)

If you have a car there's a Frank Lloyd Wright house not too far (Falling Water maybe?)

Depending on the time of year there's a good water park called Sand Castle I think.

Pittsburgh is a cool place, they've tried really hard to buck the rust belt reputation.

Somewhere in between the "y'all" of the South and the "you guys" in the north there is a band of people who say "yinz".

Also website for Falling Water LINK

Thanks for the feedback.

We get in Thursday night and fly out Monday at 6. We have a rehearsal dinner Friday night, so we go see the city Friday until 6, all day Sunday and most the day Monday.

Since the Pirates are out of town I'm thinking about driving to Cleveland on Sunday and going to an Indians game. I really like going to different ballparks. I have not been to the Indians ball park.

Don't get your hopes up on primanti bros knocking your socks off. You'd expect a lot of flavors on their sandwiches when you bite in, but it's very bland.

It's decent enough to give it a try though.

2 people have suggested this place.

What's the appeal?

Atmosphere, is it something cool over looking the river, just great sandwiches???

There's really no appeal. It's just a sandwich place. There's other food there as well. It's just been a big deal in Pittsburg forever and it's popular.

Ditto on the Primanti Bros., it's kind of like Morning Call in NOLA, just do it. It's in the old Italian part of the city.

There's a sports museum downtown, and it is really walkable to cross over the bridges and go around Heinz Field and PNC Park and the Golden Triangle. A couple of sports-related restaraunts near the sports fields.

Falling Water gets a thumbs up.

See if there's a play or concert in town for your dates, they get some decent entertainment in town there.

I saw a Broadway travelling show there at some restored old movie palace.

My brother got married in Pittsburgh in June 2014. We drove up and hit Gettysburg on the way in. Once we got there, we caught the Cubs/Pirates game. PNC is a really great ballpark. We also hit up the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. They had a HUGE mineral exhibit that I thought was pretty damn fascinating. The big draw for me was the dinosaur exhibit. I've always been fascinated with them since I was a kid, and I couldn't miss a chance to finally get to see some complete (or almost) dinosaur fossils.

I'll agree with the Primanti Bros comments. We actually didn't hit up the original location in the city. Instead we ate at one of their locations in the suburbs. the sandwiches were OK...but nothing spectacular.

The zoo there was pretty cool. They have a very nice polar bear exhibit which was unique to me being from the south and never having seen polar bears in person before. And we also hit Kennywood which has some pretty good roller coasters. I don't know if they've opened for the season yet though.

Food Board topic, with a link inside that thread to an older food board topic

ETA: Pitt is really cool to visit, there is a museum that is supposed to be really good that we were unable to visit, the Cathedral of Learning looks like something from Harry Potter.
