Does anyone have insight as the why there is only one flight from Houston to Lake Charles on July 1st, 2nd & 4th? Also, there are no flights listed on the 3rd.

Most days have three flights.

I have had a trip scheduled that included an early flight from Houston to Lake Charles on the 2nd. Months after booking, they changed the itinerary to an evening flight and it appears to be the only flight that day. This changes the travel time from 10 to 19 hours.

Why not rent a car and drive? It's less than two hours and probably cheaper.

I had to call to get back on the original flight into Houston and will have family pick us up from there.

Just more interested in why they removed so many flights around this time and how can they almost double your travel time.

It looks like there's normally 1 non-stop flight/day on United from IAH to LCH on Saturdays. That explains 7/1. Because of the holiday "weekend," it looks like they reduced frequency to once per day on 7/2, 7/3, and 7/4. Moreover, the flight on 7/3 appears to be sold out.

Holiday weekend on a business route is going to see a reduction in service.

Because OP is connecting to/from a longer flight?

If you really want to know... flying out of Houston to a tropical location as a family. I'm returning to Houston and the rest are staying an extra week. So it would have been much easier to pick them up in Lake Charles and the cost was minimal.

Well the fact that it's an extremely rare situation you are into to need to make that flight, that should tell you why there's not many options in getting that flight

3x daily to/from a hub airport is normal for an airport population the size of LCH.

The 1x on the dates listed is due to the timing of a holiday. Nothing more or less.

Ya I was going to comment on how short the Austin/Houston flight is but thought I was missing something. I had just assumed the OP was connecting.

It's funny how a 20 minute ground delay in Austin seemingly doubles the flight time and produces an audible groan that seemed louder than some I've experienced before.

Airlines all around the world are constantly calibrating their flight schedules, along with which type of airplanes fly to certain destinations (including cessation of flights altogether).

They are simply trying to maximize profits as any major corporation strives to do, and in this case frequently tuning their fleet's logistics plays a significant role in how they manage their cash flow.

Not ideal for most travelers nor is it something you probably want to hear, but my next-door neighbor (and very good friend) is a pilot for United and we have had a discussion along these lines several times and that is the answer he gives every time.

And on that note....disruptive changes to a tenured pilot's usual flight schedule(s) doesn't make them any less confused or pissed off than you and me.
