Alright so hear me out. I am close to proposing to my girlfriend (within the next 2-3 months) and am trying to get a leg-up on Honeymoon ideas.

I know, I know - don't get ahead of myself (I'm 99.9% sure she will say yes ).

But here is what I'm looking for:

We are both big beach-goers. We need somewhere with a nice beach.
We would like to go to an all-inclusive. We like to drink quite a bit (she likes beer and I like the typical tropical/fruity stuff - don't hate!)
We want to go somewhere that isn't chosen a whole lot. I don't want to do Mexico (tainted alcohol issues and can't really go outside the resort). Don't want to do Dominican for the same reasons. Some friends of ours have been to Costa Rica and St. Lucia so we don't want to go there. I would LOVE to go back to Grand Cayman, there just isn't any all-inclusive resorts there AND without it, looks like it could get expensive, quick. I've been to Jamaica on a cruise and the safety outside the resort is sketchy for me.

A couple places I was looking at were Bermuda, and Ibiza (Spain). Possibly the Bahamas somewhere away from Nassau.

Anyone have any ideas? Price range will probably be between $4000-$7000 (for everything).

Trashy to go to the third world Americas all inclusives.

Do a great beach somewhere nice. Like Europe.

Or if doing third world, do it like in Phuket.

Wait, you don't want to go to Costa Rica because you have friends who have gone? Have YOU gone? Costa Rica is AMAZING.

I've been and I would still go back in a heartbeat.

Find a small, hard to get to island in the Caribbean and pay the extra $3k. You will enjoy it way more than the Grand Cayman, Jamaica stuff.

We went to Tortola on our honeymoon and have zero regrets. Some days had an entire beach to ourselves. I think Tortola is no go for you though.

If you want something different with beautiful beaches and water. Greece.

BTW, you couldn’t be more wrong about Mexico but hey, it’s your loss.

I would do more than one place. Split, Hvar, and Dubrovnik. But I like to move around when I travel. We went to four different parts of Bali for our honeymoon.

Thanks for pointing that out on the travel board.

With your budget and wanting to do something different than friends, I agree with the suggestion of Thailand above. If you want something that likely, none of your friends have done, check out Jeju Island. There’s also a few interesting things to see there, besides the beautiful beaches and terrain.

Thailand is going to take up way too much of their budget.

Tickets there can be had pretty cheap ($600 to $800). Five star accommodation in Bangkok runs under $100 a night.

Island accommodations run the gamut from bare bones huts with AC on the beach for $30 all the way up.

It really isn't that far off all considered if you monitor flights closely.

Sorry I meant to post that FLIGHTS are going to take up too much of their budget.

I'm sure it's possible to get flights that cheap. But all I can say is my wife and I spent around $3k RT to get to Bali

Those flights are routinely available for Bangkok and some other SE Asia destinations (including China). I don't see them for Bali, but I'll keep an eye out.

I flew to India for that price back in 2013. We're in a golden age of international airfare prices.

With enough time, I don’t think there’s many places that you can’t find cheapish flights. He seems to have PLENTY of time. Also, once there he shouldn’t have a big problem on costs, unless they want to go crazy. $4-7k goes a long way for 2 people if you plan ahead at all.

Yep. I’ve never spent $1500 for a RT flight in the last few years, even to Asia on a couple days notice and out of MSY. Of course, I’m talking Economy/economy plus.
