The gf and i got a deal on flights and a place to stay in denver. were both into outdoorsy stuff, like to drink, and just want to know some of the sights. were open to driving into the outlying areas and not just spend our time in denver itself. any suggestions would be appreciated!

Go to river north (RiNo) for breweries and dayhikesneardenver.com has lots of suggestions for good hikes you can do in the foothills. I'd also take the A line into downtown and pickup your car rental there, you'll save a lot as opposed to DIA.

I just recently returned and my favorite hike was Walker Ranch, a little south west of Boulder.

I highly recommend it as the drive up and back goes over the flat irons, so you literally look over the top of Boulder (what seems like its straight down) and the entire Greater Denver area, pretty spectacular views and the hiking loop was awesome too, crossing many different attractions including this stream my dog and I took a break at (pic below). Upon completion ride over to Avery Brewing for a great lunch and walk around to see a world class brewery, then head back into Denver that afternoon.

Beautiful time of year to go. Jefferson County and Boulder County both have a bunch of open space parks with great hiking close to denver. They should still be very hikable in early december.

There's also eldorado canyon state park and the indian peaks wilderness close by. St mary's glacier is a short, easy hike with good views. You can stop in idaho springs on the way back and check out tommyknocker brewery - get the brown or the american pale ale (pick axe I think).

If you want to ski just to say you did, there should be a few white ribbons of death open by then. A-basin and loveland for sure, maybe copper and keystone.

Just got back from Denver. Two places we ate that we really enjoyed were Work and Class in the downtown area, and Sassafras (a brunch place) in Capitol Hill. Had a great time at Great Divide and Lowdown breweries, but of course there is an overwhelming number of beer options out there.
