It is called a cruise. Just because it stays around Hawaii doesn't make it anything less. You will have limited time in ports so this is not the way to see Hawaii if you want to spend as much time as possible seeing the island.

I've done it and really liked it. But it limits your time on the islands.

I've also been to Hawaii not on the cruise ship. It depends on what you like to do. More city/site seeing/shopping or more nature?

You can still island hop on a small plane and schedule your trip on particular islands for whatever amount of time you're interests in.

Waikiki beach area is our favorite area. Can stay there for a week and be happy and entertained.

For most folks visiting Hawai'i, Oahu is a must-see. The first time I went, I spent several days on the Big Island (I flew into Kona KOA) and then afterwards I flew from KOA to Honolulu (HNL) for another couple of days and then on home. The airport at KOA was easy and the inter-island flights are only like 40 minutes in a big jet.

Just another option.

Booked the 4 day Oahu package with the 7 day island hopping Pride of America cruise. A busy 3 days with tours in Oahu and we are renting a car on each island with a chopper ride into Waimea canyon. Hope to have a report in a couple of weeks. We depart very soon.

Just got back yesterday 5/1/16.

EXCELLENT!!!!

We did the 11 day Oahu/Cruise package, 3 nights in Waikiki and then the 3 island cruise (total of 7 nights). The package included tours every day on Oahu so there was no need to rent a car. We rented a car on the other islands and did our own touring. NCL tours are available as well as other tour companies. NCL tours are rather expensive and we enjoyed the freedom of going where we wanted when we wanted. GPS was available on all the islands. We pretty much just used the ship as place to eat and sleep. We ate at the free style buffet for breakfast and supper and picked up snacks and water at Wally Worlds or K marts on the islands. We were too exhausted to catch the entertainment in the evenings but did manage a few shows. Don't miss the last night in the Hollywood theatre. NCL did a heck of a job.

We did this cruise in December 2007 with our 3 children who were all in their twenties at the time. We really enjoyed it. However, we all decided if we ever go back we would just go to Wailea Beach on Maui. It was our favorite spot but we really enjoyed all the ports on the cruise. Glad we were able to do that.

We stayed on Maui and I would highly recommend staying on an island, not a cruise.

We also went to Oahu as they have the daily flights you can take but it can get a little expensive because you need a flight, probably a rental car and you feel rushed.

The cruise is the best way to see all the islands but you will miss out on a lot of the experience itself.

There is enough to do on all the islands that make it worthwhile to stay somewhere long term.

I haven't done the Hawain cruise yet, but I would recommend limiting your time on Oahu. Go see Pearl Harbor then catch the next flight out to Maui or Kauai.

Oahu is nice but we did not enjoy it nearly as much as we enjoyed Maui.

Also for whichever islands you chose get the ______ Revealed books. I found the Maui Revealed and Oahu Revealed very informative.

I lived on Oahu for 5 years. I wouldn't recommend the cruise. I also don't recommend staying in Waikiki unless you want nightlife. Waikiki is way too touristy and the beach itself is overrated. I would recommend Ko Olina Resort or Turtle Bay Resort. If staying a week or more, try to find a beach rental house on the north shore on VBRO. Any other tips or recommendations I would give would depend on the type of person you are, demographic, how active and what you are looking to get out of the trip/vacation but I have a lot of knowledge as I did weekend trips and exploring nearly every weekend.

We stayed on Maui and did the Oahu (pearl harobor, north shore, Chinatown, Waikiki, etc. It's busy there since that is the major city, Honolulu.

I've heard good things about Kona as well.

Will go to Kuaui next time for sure

Waimanalo beach would be a great spot! Yes u can get to Honolulu easy from there and most importantly you avoid a lot of the main traffic. You definitely need to rent a car. What kinds of things are you looking to do as far as activities and sightseeing? I can recommend restaurants too if you like.
