How was it. Thinking about maybe checking it out. Interested in hiking and possibly canoeing or kayaking even though I haven't done any of that stuff in years.

Its beautiful. Definitely worth going if you have the opportunity.
But this thread should be moved to the Travel Board.

Awesome park. Go, but in warmer weather. Been there and want to go back.

I just went in January. It's definitely worth going to. All of the lakes were frozen when I was there.

It's absolutely awesome. Can answer any questions you have. You can rent kayaks for sure and probably canoes.

Going this summer!
If it's anything like other coastal areas of Maine, Mass and Rhode Island it will be beautiful.

I enjoyed it. Stayed in SW Harbor. Went last week in June through first week in July. Weather was excellent and fun hikes.

I've really given Acadia some thought, but instead I'm heading west in two weeks and again in June.
Can Acadia fill that big mountain void? What's there? Charm? Chowder?

I went there when I graduated from UGA in 2013. Great road trip from Athens... went up to Niagara Falls, adirondacks for camping, Vermont, white mountains of NH, and Acadia. Awesome trip!
A few recommendations inside the park:
Hike Cadillac & Pemetic Mountains
Hike the boardwalk around Jordan Pond
See Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse
Go to Sand Beach
Visit Thunder Hole
See the Wild Gardens
If you are camping, I recommend doing so at Seawall on the south end of Mt Desert Island. That's where we camped, and it was much less crowded. Plus there is a private RV campground not far from Seawall that offers $3 hot showers. I def recommend going in the Fall. Spring and early summer is wet season.
Be sure to eat lobster at Beal's in SW Harbor, and coffee at Opera House in Bar Harbor (if they're still open).

Not sure about Acadia but the White Mtns of New Hampshire may. Not as tall as Rockies but equally steep. The views from above tree line are incredible.

Psst... I updated my post with a small list of must sees.

Yes. I was there on Sunday September 25, 2016. I was on top of Cadillac Mountain when my phone started blowing up with the news that Les Miles had just been fired. Bar Harbor is a quaint little town and the scenery in the Acadia National Park is beautiful. We did not go hiking or canoeing because we were on an excursion from a cruise ship, but I know that this area is a great place for such activities. Bring your coats. At the top of the mountain it was 37 degrees in September.

Went a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Stayed at the Bar Harbor Inn. Pricey but right on the water.
Havana restaurant in town was the best meal we had, except maybe some outdoor lobster pound stops.
Mid-June was like a light switch up there. Things were quiet, hotels had plenty of rooms, etc. After that, the season started and stuff got busy. Some seasonal things don't open until then. Their schools don't let out until about June 15.
We arrived right before mid-June. It was still coolish but nice. Flew in to Bangor. Drove around and explored the Bar Harbor/Acadia area for a few days, then worked down the coast as far as Kennebunkport before heading over to the White Mountains in NH. The drive up Mount Washington was insane. Drove back to Portland for some time, then flew home from there.

Do it. Just don't eat at the road side lobster restaurants that lead you into the park. Unless you like endless diarrhea while hiking.
