We are staying at the Wyndham, bringing two young daughters (12 & 10). This was a spare of the moment decision to have a good time in the Quarter (booked it 2 hours ago).

How are the "Haunted Tours" or other tours? We want nice dining but not "fine" dining. We are thinking a picnic in Jackson Square with a muffaletta from Corner Store.

We leave in about 8 hours and plan to play it by ear, but need recs.

Keep on the lookout for falling statues.

This and French Quarter do not compute.

Take them to the Aquarium or Audubon Zoo (ride the streetcar) or go to the WWII Museum.

The FQ is, for lack of a better term, a shithole that 12/10 year-olds don't need to see.

-City Park (Morning Call for beignets and cafe au lait, putt putt, botanical gardens, sculpture garden, Storyland for your girls)
-Streetcar to Uptown
-Audubon Park
-Audubon Zoo
-Aquarium
-Butterfly garden and insectarium
-St. Louis Cathedral
-Jean Lafitte Park
-I'm not sure about the haunted tours, but I know there's a Garden District/cemetery tour that meets at Still Perkin' coffee shop.

This. Especially with the nice weather. Start at morning call for breakfast and then hit up all of the stuff within an easy walk. There is also multi person bike and paddle boat rentals.

Can even take the street car out that way.

I would skip the haunted history tour of the quarter and just take a regular tour of the quarter in one of the mule drawn carriages that you can catch on the riverside of Jackson Square. They will give you a good overview of the area and provide some good history.

Bourbon Street and a 10 & 12 year old does not compute. We never did hit Bourbon St, mostly Royal St, Jackson Square.

What I didn't know, most things down there are closed on Mondays, including on minor Holidays. The Aquarium/IMax, Insectarium, Presbytere & LA St Museum were all closed, not sure about WWII, zoo, Mardi Gras World. Sad because it was pretty busy yesterday due to the holiday.

We ended up just shopping up/down Royal St, hitting the Riverwalk, listening to street musicians, beignets at Cafe Du Mode. I found $50 on the sidewalk of Decatur. We rode the streetcar down St Charles. I am a photographer and my 12 year old daughter has picked up the shutter bug, so we walked around photographing.

I said we didn't want to "fine" dine, but we did end up eating at Brennan's. I had never eaten there and read on the door about "jacket preferred" for dinner. I was in shorts and button up. I stuck my head in the door and asked the host if my dress was OK, because I saw a couple people come out in shorts. She said it is Monday, there really is no dress code, as long as I had a collar, no cut-offs, etc.

When we sat, I realized 90% of guest were in shorts as well. I only saw a couple guys in jackets.

After we ate, the lady helping the server asked my daughters if they ever seen turtles. We are from LA, so it was no big deal, but they went anyway and my oldest realized the band "One Republic" was in the courtyard eating. Both my daughters got signed Brennan's menus of the band (I made sure they were not eating yet, they must have just sat because they didn't even have drinks yet). This made my daughters' trip.

Today, me and my daughter went out early to do some more photographing. Later, we all did the two museums next to the cathedral, had the muffaletta in the Square, did a little more shopping, and came home.

It was a great time, we will do it again.
