Going to New Mexico next week - photography trip

I started a couple threads on this topic a few weeks ago, but now the time is near and I want some fresh ideas of things to do. We leave Wednesday morning. (7/19)
Here is my intinery:
Day 1 - leave EARLY, drive 12 hrs and arrive in Amarillo, TX late afternoon, photograph Cadillac Ranch at sunset. Stay at Airbnb
Day 2 - make our way west on Route 66, stopping randomly to photograph, staying at Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari, NM. We will probably drive as far as 1 hour west and/or north of Tucumcari, make our way back for evening
Day 3 - drive west to Madrid, NM, also stopping randomly to photograph. Probably not going to Albuquerque, but may swing through Santa Fe. Staying at a hippy ranch Airbnb in Madrid.
Day 4 - head to Roswell and then to White Sands for sunset photos. Staying two nights in Roswell, Airbnb.
Day 5 - go to Carlsbad Caverns
Day 6 - start heading home, over night stop in San Antonio
Day 7 - drive home
Any must sees along this route I spelled out above?

If you are in Amarillo, you should give Tyler's BBQ a try. Blue Sky is a great burger joint too.
Have fun on your trip. NM has some pretty scenery in parts of it.

I would HIGHLY recommend that you check out Tent Rocks National Park. You'll get some killer photos there. Probably a little further north than you want to go, but the Valles Caldera is also really cool.

You've posted your pics before and I can't wait to see these.

White Sands is outside of Alamagordo, which is 2.5-3 hours from Roswell?

Yes. We will probably go to White Sands on our way from Madrid, then head to Roswell for the night.

I lived in Tucumcari for a time back in the early 70's. Blah town, but if you take back roads south toward Clovis there is some amazing country. A bit far perhaps, but if you go on the Conchas Dam highway toward Las Vegas you will ascend a wall of mesas. Incredible vistas and very little-traveled.

I would try to find a scenic spot to shoot the milky way. There are apps to figure out positioning and composure prior to the shoot
