Taking the whole fam damily. Wife, kids, parents, sister. Be there a week. Staying in different places. Any recommendations.
Kids are 6 and 18.
My family has 2 groupings, the biologists and the geologists. I think everybody will have a blast.
Any recommendations?
TIA
ETA: the wife booked the rooms. We're staying in 3 different places

Gotcha...just make sure to research which areas you go to. Some areas during the rainy season have roads/bridges that are not passable due to the rainy conditions.

Rainy season is the best time to go in my opinion. Flowers and plants are looking incredible. Wildlife is more active. Waterfalls are gushing water.
Even in rainy season there are lots of sunny days.
OP - I would STRONGLY suggest Manual Antonio for a family. It's next to a huge wildlife reserve.
My buddy lives in Jaco and it is more of a party scene.

I'll be in Manuel Antonio for 5 nights the end of March/early April. Keeping an eye on this thread as well...

If you're with a gf or family you will love it. I think Jaco is better for the single guy scene.

Spent all of last June there doing research. It was incredible.
Surf was some of the best I had seen. Rip tides were very strong so if swimming be aware.
OP, if you head to Manual Antonio or Quepos I can give you a few ideas of what to do. There are some amazing beaches in remote areas that are accessible, but not well known to tourists, unique dining options, luscious rainforests, and waterfall tours accessible by horseback.
Ticos and Ticas are laid back, and very friendly. Friday nights and Saturday morning there was also la feria. This is the chance to buy some of the most delicious produce for next to nothing.
Rainy season be damned. Usually hit around 2:00 or 2:30 and would last about 1-2 hours at most. So wake up early each day with a plan.

The rain is usually in the afternoon for a few hours, sometimes light. Don't bring large bills (hard to break), use hotel safes for passports, cash, jewelry.
the exchange rate is more than the 500 to 1 they try to peg it at. banco nacional gives a good rate for colones, was around 540 to 1. it's not necessary to convert though.
Download whatsapp on your phone to communicate with the locals or your driver when needed. Waze is good for driving directions.
You can get injections and antibiotics at the local pharmacy if anyone gets sick.
It is a safe and friendly place, spanish isn't a must. The locals are nice but keep in mind you are seen as a dollar sign.
