Frequent OT Fliers: Thoughts on the Clear System?

Anyone else think this is total bullshite? I pay for TSA Precheck, and now there's this new system. Half the airports I go to rarely have the Precheck lane open, but this other lane is always wide open.
Is it worth the cost for someone who flies frequently? And are they gonna have a new system every 3-5 years once the current one gets overloaded?

Clear existed before tSA pre check
I had it day 1 because it bumped you thru normal security lines. Less needed now with pre check. Basically allows you to cut all lines.
Not in all airports.

I travel a lot but almost all international so I don't have a huge need for this. But I am interested to see what people think of it. It may come in handy if actually useful.
Side note... the Mobile Passport app is f'ing awesome for coming back through Customs. I literally went through Customs at IAH about two weeks ago in less than 1 minute. I was amazed. I'm sure that will change when everyone starts using it though

quote:Yeah, but they went bankrupt and this is a newer version with totally different people and a different approach apparently. I read about it on The Points Guy not too long ago and it sounded like it may have some benefits. But like you said, certain airports so it would depend on your travel habits I guess.

This is without Global Entry?
It will be nice if one day every body for the most part gets to breeze through.

Just spent 1.5h at JFK on Sunday while I see other people go through customs in minutes. #NonCitizensLivesMatter

I'm a CLEAR member since they have it here at DIA, as well as other airports I fly through more frequently than others. I thoroughly enjoy having no more than 1 or 2 people (if anyone at all) in line in front of me when I walk up to scan my boarding pass and finger prints.

Is this in addition to Global Entry or is this a new feature to augment GE? I have GE as well, can't imagine something being faster than that. IAH's Customs is a joke with GE.

Are there any credit cards that comp it like AMEX Gold does with GE?

I'm not sure, TBH. I have a Sapphire, maybe I should look into that with Chase My annual CLEAR fee was charged to my card in August, so if they do, it's not auto-comp.

quote:There were people in line to use the GE kiosks. I zigged left immediately where the signs are that tell you to go straight for US citizens (I assume you know where I'm talking about if you use IAH Intl often). I went all the way (almost out of Customs) down to a little machine with an agent there and that's where I scanned my QR code on my phone. He didn't even ask me any questions and in fact, I asked him a question "Is that it?" and he chuckled and said "yep, welcome home.". I went down and went to baggage claim.

Going out of baggage claim there was only one line with the QR reader (far left) and that agent actually looked at my actual passport as I scanned my phone. Again, was almost instant.

Wild.
I'll have to keep this in mind as I'm coming home through IAH on my way back from my next trip. I may be stubborn and use GE since I paid good money for it
