Flying from Houston to NYC on United...fly into LaGuardia or Newark?

It's been a while since I flew into New York City...out of these two airports, which one is recommended? Staying in midtown Manhattan.
Thanks in advance.

LaGuardia is such a shite hole I think I'd rather fly into Newark and take the train into the city.
I've done both and found the Newark/Penn Station combo easier than the LaGuardia Greyhound bus stop looking airport to mile long taxi stand/rideshare wait.

I think this group would be ok taking a towncar from airport to city...I don't think they feel comfortable enough taking a train. Based on this, which airport is better?

You think the Newark/Penn Station combo is best? I'm flying into Newark on the 5th and don't have transportation from airport yet. I'm also staying in Midtown. (I was just going to do a towncar)

Just fly into LGA. Town car to midtown will be $50 each way.

If you're taking a town car, I'd go LGA.
But for the record, taking the train from Newark into Midtown would be faster and exponentially cheaper. We don't all have that TD cash flow coming in. It's really not difficult at all to figure out.
Edit: I wasn't thinking about there being multiple people in your party. Train from Newark to Penn Station is $13/person, so if you have 4 or more people in your party, it'd probably be a negligible difference in price from a town car. I usually go to NY for work alone so when I'm pricing travel it's for one.

Sounds like with this group, they'd be better off paying a little extra and spending a little more time in traffic if it means they won't be anxious or stressed out. I know the type.

Oh in that case, have the invalids fly into LaGuardia. It is smaller and the cabby will take them where they want to go.

LaGuardia is just such a dump and it was a clusterfrick. As with many things, it is all based on personal experience but I've never heard a good word about LaGuardia. I found getting on the train and heading to Newark pretty easy and would think the reverse would be as well.
I flew into LaGuardia for Labor Day weekend so that's on me, though I will say it was damn near midnight when we landed and it still was total chaos.

Well well well....
It sounds like our fearless leader should be on the hook to post a legit review for our new travel board!

LaGuardia is a dump 365 days of the year. But sounds like may be better suited to the party involved.

I agree.
I've been to all 3 airports there. JFK is pretty shitty too but LaGuardia is another level.

I would personally do Newark. Less possibility of delays. And you can take uber for less than $50 with a group of 4.
LGA is a shite hole.

Apparently these folks can't navigate themselves out of a cardboard box so the smaller the airport the better was my thinking.

LGA is an abomination, but it might be better strictly for this scenario.

The honest answer is it doesn't matter. EWR/JFK/LGA all have their pros/cons. All same taxi distance/price to manhattan. EWR/JFK have a train option.
JFK has by far the best dining/bar options, then LGA, then EWR.

I've always been partial to LGA when going into Manhattan. I'm not really a huge fan of any of the NY airports, though. I would just prefer a taxi/towncar from LGA vs the other options.

LGA is a dump.
Newark looks better on the inside, but, you get to imagine what would happen if MSY was rebuilt in Chalmette. Flying in through all the chemical plants is interesting.
For the reasons you gave, LGA is probably better. Smaller to navigate, take the town car.

We weren't flying in from Houston OR on United but we flew into LGA this past summer and it was super easy to get Uber at the airport ... and to get home we got there 2+ hours early but there was not a soul in front of us in the security line. I don't "need" anything really from an airport other than a place to grab "something" to eat, a clean restroom and a terminal to get on the plane.
