Fly to London or Amsterdam?

I'm traveling to southern Netherlands for work. I'm trying to decide which city to fly to, spend a day/night and finish my trip by train. I've always had a big interest in English history, but Amsterdam seems intriguing. I'm mid thirties and married.

One day and one night are hardly worth the trouble of flying into London. Just fly to Amsterdam and enjoy it. If work is picking up the tab for the flight, be sure to book w/an airline you fly regularly & maximize your points, if possible.
Plan a separate trip to get your British history fix. British Airways begins direct flights from MSY to LHR in March three or four times a week, so you can go from NOLA to London in 10 hrs w/no connections. Spring RT flights are around $1200-1400.
If you travel for work on a reimbursement basis, get a new travel rewards card w/fat bonus & leverage the work trip into your future London trip.

I had the same dilemma when traveling this past summer. I chose Amsterdam and really enjoyed my time there.
If you plan to stop in Amsterdam, I suggest looking for accommodations in the Jordaan district. It's a really nice area. Keep in mind that everything is walking/biking distance. Also, there are bikes EVERYWHERE. Never seen anything like it.

I'll have plenty of time to check out London on my days off. I just wanted to kick off my European experience off Right, so I was trying to decide where to do that

Yep, London is a big city and seeing very much will be a challenge in just 1 day....plus you will be jet lagged. Amsterdam is my favorite euro city. Its very compact and walkable but renting a bike will make it even easier to get around.....if you are confident on a bike. Definitely rent one to ride around Vondel Park and make a stop at the Blue Tea house (Blauwe Theehuis) in the park for a beer and great people watching.

Great place. Was there a few months ago. Ordered a beer at 9:00 am
The park is nice and not too far from the Heineken brewery.

I've been both to London and Amsterdam. And I prefer London to any other city. It's more intelligent and beautiful. And why don't you go both to London and Amsterdam? Just buy the cheapest tickets to save money, I always use this service to look for flights https://uk.lowcost.club/ With it you can visit and compare these cool towns. Take care

Piggy backing off this thread. Doing London May 5-12.. is the London Pass worth getting? I figure on doing touristy stuff for a couple of days, but I also want to head down towards the Jurassic Coast and maybe go north as well.
