Fall break get away - less than 3 hour drive?
Looking for recs for a two-night get away, less than 3 hour drive from BR.

Last year we did New Orleans, so something different this year.

I was thinking about Natchez, MS. Any thing to do in Natchez with wife and two daughters (13 & 11).

Biloxi is also an idea, but don't really feel like gambling or Margaritaville.

Wife and I stayed in Natchez for 2 nights last year at this time. If you're interested in Southern History, it's a great town to visit. Grab a map from the visitors center and follow the trail of plantations. We paid to tour 2 of them, then just drove to the rest of them.

Natchez is great if you are interested in touring plantations and getting a history lesson. I believe it's Dunleith where they have some nice rooms with the Castle restaurant and Pub.

Natchitoches, LA if you're traveling during the holiday season--the city puts up lights along the river, and there are charming B&Bs in historic buildings. You can eat meat pies to your heart's content. Slow pace--lots of history, the nearby Cane River National Heritage area, Melrose Plantation, and Los Adaes state historic site. If those kids are studying or recently studied LA history, they might enjoy it. On the way, you can make a short stop in Alexandria to see Kent House, a plantation with a reproduction 1840s sugar refinery. They'll actually be making sugar in it 11/11 this year. Pretty cool setup, with open pans, fire boxes beneath...long handled dippers used to move the concentrating sugar from one pan to the next as it thickens. LINK
