I've gone a lot, and I'm going for the boxing July 21st - July 24th.

Here are my choices of places to stay (for free). Hard Rock. Treasure Island, The D, Four Queens, Downtown Grand, Golden Nugget or Cabana Suites at the El Cortez.

I want to try something new, and I've stayed at all except the Downtown Grand, Golden Nugget and the Cabana Suites.

Anyone have any experience at these places? Both look newer, and acceptable to me. Location isn't an issue as I rent a car.

Of these choices, I would stay at Treasure Island because I like the location. I know you said that location is not that important to you because you have a car, but I like to walk and TI is an easy walk to many of my favorite places such as The Venetian across the street and Caesar's Palace a few blocks away. If you want to stay downtown rather than on the strip, I would choose the Golden Nugget.

If you are determined to do old Vegas, El Cortez.

Hell, go for it. Stay at the 'Tez. You've got a car. The cabana suites were nice when I stayed a few years ago.

I wouldn't really recommend walking from TI to Caesars in late July. It's a deceptively long walk.

The golden nugget rush tower has been renovated and is very nice, assuming that type of room is free.

Personally, I don't think treasure Island has the best location on strip. It is the furthest north on the west side and near wynn/encore and venetian/palazzo.

I read TD everyday but decide to not post. Figured the travel board would be a safe Avenue.

Stayed in the Rush Tower at the Golden Nugget during Labor Day Weekend in 2013, would highly recommend it..beautiful rooms. The property is a bit dated, but still fun. All of the restaurants I went to on the property were legit. The pool is also very nice.

I'm missing you guys by about a week. I believe the UFC fight is the night I arrive (July 9th).

I've stayed at the Golden Nugget and the Cabana Suites.
The GN is nice. You can't go wrong there. The Cabana Suites are fine if you like the Miami Beach type motif. The bathrooms are small, the bed ok. It's fine, but I would choose the GN over them.

Golden Nugget would be my choice. Can't really go wrong with it. I really enjoy The D now too. If I do go downtown and make a night of it, The D is usually my go to.

I stopped by The Hard Rock two weekends ago, they must have lowered the prices to get into Rehab. Some of the clientele looked rough. Might have just been a bad weekend though. The updated center bar is pretty nice now.

I'd take any of the Fremont locations if you're looking to go out drinking and/or gamble.

Nugget, El Cortez, and DT Grand are all solid. I'd probably take Nugget overall. Good buffet, nice pool. I'm sure 4 Queens is nice, but I haven't stayed there. Hugo's Cellar in it is super legit if you're looking for a classy old school Vegas meal, though.

Hard Rock is nicer than everything listed, but it's off by itself a bit. Your car helps, but it won't if you're drinking. The Joint is a great venue to see bands, so I'd do that if you're interested.

I'd only do TI if you have to be on the strip. I'm not a fan of the strip, but then I'm local so I'm biased.

Never cared for hard rock. Our work convention was always there. Glad they moved it to the palms.

Thanks everyone. Hugo's is one of my favorite restaurants, so that's a definite every time I go. Gene gets my golf comped, so he's my salad guy.

Also started going to Oscars. I've briefly met Oscar, and he is close to some friend of mine. Nick has waited tables in LV for a long time, and always supervises whoever waits on me there.

Slight change of plans. The Plaza called me and comped a newly renovated one bedroom suite. It looks newer, and their roof top pool will finally be opened, so I'm going there. I suspect Oscar or Nicky found out I was coming and made this happen.

Probably fish Friday at lake Mead, dinner and a show Friday night. Gamble Saturday, dinner and boxing at MGM Grand. I guess they're taking care of my tickets.

I'm going to try to get to the Italian American club if I can manage it. Maybe the Golden Steer.

I'll tip the casino host regardless, but if the suites and new pool are anywhere near as nice as they look, I'll slip him an extra hundy.

I've gotten away from the Wynn, Palazzo and Venetian. I can certainly go there, but they want me at 10K to comp now, and I'm not going to do that for free rooms boxing tix and food.

I just refuse to pay for rooms. If this place in nice, I'll let you all know. The new renovations and pool sure look nice. Well see.
