Any advice for booking at dollywood sometime next summer. Wife and daughter want to go there and I'm cool with it. How does the theme park compare to Disney or universal? Are the lines normally long? Any benefits to staying at their resort?

Do you like rollercoasters and the same shitty stores that are on the strip in Gatlinburg? Mix in a few country music shows as well.

That's Dollywood now. It's devoid of all the cool craftsman stuff they use to have in there. Only neat things I still enjoy is the eagle sanctuary and bird of prey show and the old trains.

The park is tiny in comparison to Universal and Disney. It's a one day park, if you really really enjoy coasters, you probably can stretch it a bit.

It's a bunch of junk stores. It's touristy, you may enjoy it some. Stores like a store full of hot sauces and such.

They have a few good coasters.

Major disappointment. Can't hold a candle to Disney nor Universal. Six Flags Arlington had some nice rollercoasters. Check out The Titan on youtube to get an idea.

Plan a vacation to Smoky Mt NP and take a day to do Dollywood. It's not worth more than a day's time.

I went to Dollywood as a teenager. I remember many of the employees had the same "condition" as Dolly herself.

Still open all these years later so it must be fine.

It's a fun Park, but like someone else said - it's a one day park. Best thing you can do is buy a ticket late in the afternoon and go in and that ticket is good for the next day. I think it's like 4 or 5pm - if you purchase your park tickets after that time then they can be used the next day.

The area is very touristy, but we go because its a relaxing vacation. We love the slow pace of Dollywood. The kids like the go carts, ziplines, alpine coasters (look for free coupon books to most of these).

We hit the outlet malls, Apple Barn. In Gatlinburg eat at the Pancake pantry, watch taffy being made at Ole Smoky candy kitchen, Aquarium, and take a lunch to the Chimneys in the Natl park past Gatlinburg. Get your feet in the water, thank me later

There have been lots of threads on Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, GSMNP, etc. I think you'll find what you are looking for. I like the park and the wilderness, but we stayed in Gatlinburg when we went las summer. We spent every moment we could in the park, and found really great places to eat, off the strip, in Gatlinburg. We spent zero time in Pigeon Forge.

So, it depends on what you are looking for. But it's a beautiful and really nice area.

We stayed at the Bearskin Lodge in Gatlinburg. It is right next to the park entrance.

I've always enjoyed Pigeon Forge for what it is. I have 2 kids, ages 5 & 7, and we live near BR. We can get there in a day, plenty of fun things to do up and down the parkway, as well as some easy hikes. We always spend a day at Dollywood- it is easy to get around, lines usually aren't too long and the coasters are surprisingly good. The wild eagle coaster is one of the best I've ever ridden. Also there are plenty of Go-Karts, arcades, etc up and down the Parkway.

Of course it is kind of hokey, but if you know that going in you can still enjoy it. Plenty of chain/touristy places but also some quality restaurants if you dig a little deeper.

We stay at the Resort at Governor's Crossing- it has suites, indoor/outdoor pools, and is convenient to everything. We usually only spend a day in downtown Gburg- I would rather Pigeon Forge.

My kids went there and enjoyed as well as myself. They were 9 and 11 at the time. They have some decent coasters. When we were there they also had a Chinese lady that did a show with bubbles that was pretty cool.

As far as Gatlinburg my kids loved being in the mountains and playing/swimming in the creeks. The little water park next to Dollywood is decent too.

I would like to hear more about these quality restaurants. We made the trip for the first time last year and I had trouble finding much of anything. And I'm not looking for fancy stuff, just some good food that's not chain or low end local stuff with everything coming out of the can or frozen and re-heat.

Stayed there on our trip. It was ok for the price, but it is def. a lower end kind of place to me. The pretend fireplace in the room was a joke and furnishings, etc felt old and tattered.

We still had a great trip, but when we go back, we will just stay in Gatlinburg or in a cabin in the woods. The view was horrible at the Resort and I kind of went up there to be able to have nice woods or mountain views from where we were staying.
And it sucked driving through the traffic back and forth to get to town and go into the NP.

Go stay on the other side of the mountains, Highlands/Cashiers area. Lots of good restaurants in that area. It's more upscale over there, not that it takes much to be more upscale than gatlinburg/pigeon forge.

I agree with that on The Peddler. The Greenbrier was also very good.

Just use Trip Advisor and look for places off the strip. There are plenty of great food options in Gatlinburg.

Ate at one this summer in Pigeon Forge called the Local Goat. Good food and a decent selection of craft beers. Much better than anything I've had previously in the area. I'd recommend it!

If you like crap like this, you'll like gatlinburg. The apple barn, taffy, and outlet malls aren't for me. I'd much rather go to Asheville for better eating and drinking. To each their own

IF you decide to go to Dollywood, look up Timber Top Cabin rentals. I have stayed in those cabins about 10 times. All are in good shape and they are easy to deal with.

Most of them are a 15 min or less drive from Dollywood.
