Disney for Mardi Gras

planning a trip to Disney next Mardi Gras. I've only ever been during summer and early January. Wondering what to expect as far as crowds and weather? I know next year Mardi Gras falls a few weeks after President's Day which is apparently a pretty crowded weekend there. So hoping that it will clear out pretty well by time we come in late February.

Should be a good time and not too crowded. It makes Disney interesting no doubt when there are a bunch of La people there at the same time.

President's Day. My mistake.
This trip will be my first with my son. He will be 1.5 yrs old. Should be interesting. Any tips would be appreciated.

WDW has Jersey week in early November and Louisiana week in some time in Feb/March

I suggest staying on the grounds, preferrably one of the places on the monorail route. Go home mid day and let the little guy take a nap.
Don't try and push it too hard every day.
Get a guide book and plan months in advance for your meals if seeing the characters and all that is what you want to do. The good places will book up quickly.

Meh. I like having the hard copy for stuff like this for some reason.

I think the last book we have is from 1999. It's so damn outdated.
I like the internet, not because the advice is necessarily better or different, but because you get more accurate information in terms of what's down and crowd levels for specific dates. There's also up-to-date menus and reviews for restaurants.

Well, I TRIED to start a WDW mega thread where all of this kind of info could be discussed on an ongoing basis, but it got anchored. No idea why.
I would suggest with a kid that young that you RENT a stroller, but NOT from Disney. There are several companies out there that rent strollers (and ECVs). You go online, reserve it and pay. When you make the reservation, you tell them where you're staying, when you're arriving and when you're leaving. Then you set the drop off and pick up times. You get to your resort and the stroller is waiting for you. Use it all week and then leave it with the concierge desk when checking out. Super easy and convenient, plus, I never have to pack a stroller in the car or bring one on the airplane.

Well with as much as Disney gets discussed it would have turned into one monster thread..

Did this on our last trip b/c of our 2 younger girls... Recommend this to anyone.. Best 100 bucks I've spent.. We used to bring 2 strollers with us..1 jogger and 1 fold up one.. The extra space from leaving them at the house was nice..

Yeah, I figured that would have been better than 10 different Disney threads on the first 2 pages....apparently not.

Probably because the links. I'm guess chicken wants this place to a resource rather than other places being your resources. In other words, he wants the content here to drive traffic here.

we are flying southwest and were going to bring our small one as one of our "free bags". or would that not be a good idea (or is that even considered a checked bag?)

It's a good idea, especially with Southwest where it's free. Having your own helps through the airport and at Disney because you can bring it anywhere and you're used to it.

I have gone 2 of the last 3 years. Crowds aren't too bad, especially since you'll be catering to the little one a lot more than trying to hit all of the big rides. The big rides will have up to 1 hour waits, but everything else can be done in 20-25 minutes.
Download the "My Disney Experience" app and get used to it before you get there. You can set your fast passes (up to 3 a day, one park a day) ahead of time and plan your day accordingly. You have to set all 3 at once before you amend and change the times. I believe if you use all 3 you can get a 4th, but I have never tried.

This is correct. They've actually just overhauled the system. It used to be that after you used your initial 3 FP+, you had to go to a kiosk in the park to schedule that 4th FP+. Now, you'll be able to do it via the app...AND you can make that 4th selection (and those after that) for a different park than the one the first 3 were in. They've also made the app easier so that you can make changes to your selections easier.

I'm doing the same. It won't be as empty as off peak, but it won't be too bad either. There will still be long waits for some rides.
Lots of Saints and LSU shirts out there that time of year.
They release the prices in June for 2017. (maybe May if we are lucky) but you can actually reserve a room now by calling. This year I'm going to try and rent DVC points and stay in a Savanna view room or the Polynesian. The other options are the family suite at Art of Animation or stay just off property in a suite (that's the best deal at $100-120 a night and you drive in and pay$15 to park) which is slightly less convenient than the buss system.
We are splitting and doing three nights at Cabana Bay at Universal as well.

This, the only ride that was over an hour when we last went was The Toy Story ride at Hollywood studios, but we fast passed that.
