I've looked at several different crowd calendars as I'm looking to go the end of April or first of May. Most show 4/10 to 5/10 for the days we would be there. What exactly does that mean for wait times on rides? We will have young kids so mostly doing it for them. Not gonna be able to do many big roller coasters anyway.

The other option is to wait until September but it's harder for me to take off work then. We don't wanna do summer crowds or holiday crowds so picked a time when most kids are still in school. Ours are preschool age so it doesn't matter.

Crowd calendars aren't nearly as accurate as they once were. If they are truly 4-5/10, you're looking at long waits (up to an hour) on the most popular rides, but much shorter on the rest. There are plenty of other tips you can use to help, such as avoiding MK on Mondays, avoiding parks with extra magic hours unless you're really going to use them, etc.

Why? I have a 2.5 year old and Disney is in the near future.

Most people start their vacations on Monday and want to hit up Magic Kingdom on their first day. Of course, that's not set in stone, but in the past it's typically been more crowded at MK on Mondays.

That makes total sense. Thanks

It's kind of like Destin. You don't go to Big Kahuna or try to play public golf later in the week.

Moderate crowds. E-ticket rides like Mine Train, the mountains, Soarin, Safari, etc you could be looking at a max of 60 or so minutes. Smaller rides could be 15-30 minutes. Some rides will be 10 minutes or less. You should be able to show up to a show 15 min before hand and get a seat. Parades and fireworks, maybe show up 15-30 min ahead of time.

That is not a bad time of year to go.

There is never a good time anymore.
All I know is I will never go in the summer ever again.

We went last week in Jan and it was Brazilian vacation time.

We are here now and it was really busy at MK Sunday . We went to MK again yesterday and it was just as busy in the morning. Hollywood was very nice in the afternoon and evening . We were able to walk right on to a few attractions . We are trying EPCOT tomorrow morning.

This is false.

Here now and crowds are not bad compared to other times I've been.

There are a few weeks in the fall and winter that are less crowded.

What's the longest lines you've seen for something this week?

When it comes to lines, there really is no low period anymore. Part of that is due to Disney cutting staff during the slow periods where in the past they would not do this.

There are only a few weeks per year that can still be considered low. Every month has at least a few moderate if not high weeks.

I prefer Mardi GRAS week if it does'nt fall during a cheer comp, marathon or presidents day. Late October is also nice if you avoid the marathon week. Early May before school lets out is also a good time.

Sticking with recommended parks, hitting main attractions before 11 am or in the last hour or two the park is open (using FP+ between 11 - 4, then adding whatever is available after that) means you shouldn't have to wait for more than 20/30 minutes for just about anything unless you want to do the headliners multiple times in a day.

You can still do any headliner muultiple times in a day, but it's how you do it that counts. On a MK day, hit Mine Train at rope drop, then again with a 10-10:50 FP, then again later in the evening with an additional FP. (for example). Just try to avoid getting off and getting right back on for the most popular attractions.

On those types of days it's probably more important to make sure you're in a recommended park than when the crowds are 8/10 and 9/10. On those days everything is crowded but on days where one park may be a 4/10 and another is a 7/10 the differences in wait times could be staggering from one park and/or one day to another.

On a recommended day you could wait 20 minutes for soarin at 9:30 am, come back the next day at the exact same time on an early morning EMH and you may wait 45.

The first two weeks after Thanksgiving is without question my favorite time of year to go. Extremely low crowds (just before and after very high peak times) and all the holiday magic that comes with it.

Any time kids aren't in school is a decent time. Any holiday, any 3 day weekend, any potential opportunity a kid will be out of school is a bad time to go.

I went the first week of October last year, just pulled the kid out of school and went. Basically walked onto every ride every day.

Avoid summer at all costs

Our best time at Disney was the week of Halloween. The weather was perfect and lines were very short. There were many rides that we practically walked on. We had to take out kids out of school but it was worth it.

To the OP I would say to go in April over may, better chance of being cooler. May is pushing it to be pretty hot.

I also have learned to avoid Magic Kingdom on the weekends, we try to go Tuesday through Thursday. A lot of people just go for the weekend or long weekend and Fridays and Saturdays have been packed at MK while we park hopped elsewhere and it was dead.

Well April means Easter and Spring Break so it's really either the last week of the month or the first week of May. There is a cheerleading competition starting in early May on the 5th I think so that would be our last day. I think crowds would be similar either week. Some local school let kids out in late April before finals so that's one reason I'm leaning towards the first week of May. Weather should be different one week to the next then.

We did Dollywood recently to see how the kids would do and there were no lines at all until the afternoon. By then they got tired and waiting 30 min in line didn't interest them. I'll maximize the fast pass, preferred park days, and get there at park opening to get the most benefit. We might even go back to the room in the afternoon to rest and go back at night.

I don't wanna plan for hurricane season just because of that chance so I'm really leaning towards early May. I checked the line waiting times app during that week this past May and it all looked reasonable.

It's hit or miss. We went for Halloween one year and it was hotter in late October than it was on our previous mid May trip.

Orlando isn't that different than Baton Rouge that time of year. You could get cooler weather into May or it could be hot as hell.
