First time at these ports. Any suggestions?

Belize City is a shithole. The cave tubing and zip lining is fun.

You need to book an excursion in Belize. Water taxi to Caye Caulker and drink and snorkel at the split. In Roatan you should book a driver with Bodden tours. $25 a head all day. Highly recommended.

Yeah, nothing for you in Belize city. Had to work there for a couple of weeks and you don't want to be there

Bring back some Kuknat rum from Belize.
Take a tour, don't hang around in Belize City. We love going to Belize, but we don't go to Belize City.

I have been to both places on cruises. In Belize City we went to the Mayan ruins of Alton Ha which was pretty interesting. If you are looking for a bar, The Great House Hotel near the dock has one in a nice French Quarter style courtyard. In Roatan we went to a beach resort. It was on West Bay's Tabyana Beach. It was a nice beach with good snorkeling. This appeared to be a place where you can only access the beach through a hotel or private resort. The place we went to was called "The Lost Caribbean"

Not sure if you'll have enough time, but check out Roatan Island Charters. Owned by some good friends of ours & huge Tiger fans (check out the flag flying on the boat).
I've never been, but have heard only great things about Roatan.

Belize City is a dump and Roatan is not much better. I did both on a cruise and Roatan, years later for 8 days. If you're certified, they both offer some good places to dive. If not, I'd recommend looking into something like the discover scuba program.

A lot of people like Little French Key in Roatan. It's like a $100pp beach day.

West Bay Beach is beautiful in Roatan. We did a Victor Bodden tour which came with a stop at the house with all the animals. That was neat and getting a drive around the island and going basically any place you wanted was neat. I loved Roatan and thought it was beautiful, too bad it is so poor and the people have to live in shacks.

This is probably where they should head for the day. Restaurants and bars all up and down the beach with a little shopping mixed in.

I've never been to Belize, so no recs on that.
But as others have said, I'd head to West Bay in Roatan. We rented a house on the beach 2 years ago for a week and had a great time. There are plenty of bars and shopping up and down the beach. The Las Rocas dive center has a nice little restaurant overlooking the water. We ate there almost daily for breakfast and couple times for lunch and dinner. It was cheaper to eat there than to cook at the house.

Belize - Dark Night cave tubing. It's a ride but a great day.
Roatan- we did the private island through the cruise line. It was superb. Excellent snorkeling.
Good meals at both stops as well.

There is a guy selling rum punch and coconuts under a thatched cart. $4 rum punch is the best thing about that stop!

Speaking of selling. There's an old guy on West Bay Beach that sells banana doughnuts. Just buy one and enjoy. You can share one with the family.

Can't repeat this enough... I spent 12 days in Caye Caulker and loved every second of it. Belize City is a fricking dump.
