Has anyone done this. Any Egypt tips are helpful. I think the Muslim rage level is at an acceptable level right now.

How much have you researched the cruise? We have begun talking about doing a river cruise in Europe. The level of service of those cruises is amazing and the price filters out the riff raff.

It was 20 years ago when I was stationed in Bahrain, but a buddy of mine sailed the Nile during Christmas and said it was amazing, don't know what things are like today. Egypt is a bucket list trip for me but after the Arab Spring and from what I have heard from fellow travelers the there is trash piled everywhere and it's not as good of an experience as it used to be. Maybe someone that has been recently will chime in.

I did it in 2006. Wonderful experience. There are several different levels of price and luxury and plenty to choose from. If you like history you will love it. We stopped at several ancient sites and each had a unique story. Guides came with the cruise. As to safety, there are armed guards on each boat. The only thing I didn't like is if you look at the water there is a line of boats as far as you can see. Be sure to add on a trip to Valley of Kings and Valley of Queens. Also fly to Cairo for the pyramids. We cruised from Aswan to Thebes

I did one as a larger tour of Egypt. We flew down to Abu Simbel which was as interesting as the Pyramids, then we got on a cruise ship from Aswan to Luxor. It was a good cruise with lots of stops along the way. From there you can catch a train back up to Cairo.

I'm looking at a bunch of different tours right now. I'm not usually a tour type of person, but the region's stability calls for it imo.

Yeah, I'd highly recommend a tour. They will help you avoid scams and can line up site tours for you ahead of time.

I used three separate companies while there. Don't be shocked if you get an armed bodyguard as part of your tour. I had one of those in Sharm el sheikh and that was pre-Arab Spring.

I've seen a few reviews where that was mentioned. The best deal I've found so far was off of Travel Zoo from Travel Discounters.

A lot of positive reviews on them.

I still keep in touch with some of my guides there. Their site is https://www.lonelyegypt.com/

They were good about letting us make the agenda for the trip we booked.

I used to live in Cairo and it's a great experience to go down the Nile. They have overnight cruises which will take you to Luxor (the one we did) and it was really fun.

I'd still be a bit hesitant to go FWIW.

I'm still iffy myself. I'm finding the single supplements to be pretty hefty on these as well.

This didn't stop the German tourists from being gunned down, but I'm sure you'll be fine.

My dad was stationed there for 6 months back in 1992. I've always wanted to go.

ETA: Also ran into a guy and his family in Cambodia who live in Cairo. Said he's been through like 4 revolutions in the past few years, didn't seem phased at all

Since the Arab Spring, I've been 3 times and didn't have any problems. To Cairo that is, not Luxor. My main concern is the rogue group who kidnapped the Italian student/journalist. Cops there could easily become like Mexico with shakedowns, kidnappings etc.

Keeping a low profile will serve you well and you'll probably be safe.
