Looking to possibly head that way either this weekend or in the future.

Looks like hiking trails etc...

things to do? places to eat? We're looking to make a day out of it. Best to just pack a lunch?

Never been to that area before so trying to gather up some info.

I've always just hiked and packed a lunch, which is great. Not sure what else is around there as far as food goes...

Nothing really close. Just bring snacks for the hike and go to St Francisville after to eat

Pack your snacks...there used to be a little store in Pond, just up the road from the entrance to the Clark Creek. It sold dusty cans of soda, etc. I haven't been up that way in a few years, so I don't know if it's still there.

The Pond store was open on Saturday a few weeks ago when we were there. Not sure what hours or what days it may be open. They sell beer also. Not much else there.

So pretty much all they have to do in that area is hike and check out the scenery?

Yeah, that's why people go there.
Magnolia Cafe is good, but it's every bit of 30 minutes from Clark Creek.
You could always continue on to Natchez...not that there's much more to do there.

This part of the country is about as appealing as an old arse.

There's nothing there but beautiful scenery, out of shape hikers and crappy roads.

Got a couple ticks last time I went. Be careful. It was in August though.

Well that's your opinion, man.

Grew up in St. Francisville. Beautiful country. Might I add that we have a new restaurant in town called The Francis...right there on 61 as you come into town. Worth checking out if you are looking to eat around that area.

Also, the Angola Prison rodeo is April 22nd and 23rd. Definitely something to see if you haven't already. Not sure if you are wanting to wait that long tho

What else do you want?

The woods and creeks are all that is needed.

And that is the nicest and most unique scenery within 6 hours of Baton Rouge. I love that area

Sounds like it will be a fun time.....

How long does it take to hike the area? How many falls? j/w...

Also, the place in St. Francisville (new spot) looks nice!

There's 3 main falls I think. You can do it in a long morning. I always go around the entire loop counterclockwise.

After you are done the hike you aren't going to want to eat at a sit down restaraunt like the Francis house. If you do the hike correctly you will be filthy, sweaty, muddy etc. I usually stop at the subway or Mcdonald's on the way back to Baton Rouge.

If the pond store is open its worth it to stop by. Grab a cold soda, some candy and a map. If you like history at all you'll want to stop by the pond store. It probably looks much like it did 100 years ago.

There is some bathrooms at the start of the trail and a honor box for parking. $4 to park. No cell phone coverage for most of the trail but its pretty hard to get lost. Just make sure you get out before it gets dark. Cut it close once as I lost track of time down at the creek bed.

The lady told us the store was built there because it was a one day hike from the river. Migrant workers would walk from a landing on the river to there.

The question about how many falls I've heard more than 40. I've been to 13 that are not very hard to get too. Not sure how big or where the others are. They may be really small. There are also a few on private property not for public.

Looks like a fun and peaceful day. Great weather for us too! 68 for the high!

Go online and print a map. There are none available at trailhead.

If u go during the week, I'd go a few miles further on 66 and catch the Angola Prison museum. It's free and has some neat things. It's right at the prison entrance on the right
