I'd stay at the South Congress Hotel or the W downtown. Eat at Sway, Barley Swine, Olamaie, Jeffrey's or La Barbecue.

I'll be there over Christmas. We always do AirBnB in south austin as its closer to my brothers house way down south. But East Austin is a good area to stay too.

Had lunch at Olamaie on Friday. Best meal I've had in Austin so far. I'd also throw in Justine's, but the vibe may not be for everyone...Then again Brooklyn Decker was there when I went.

you were given several good dinner recommendations. Maybe tour the Capitol? It's an amazing building full of history and it's even nicer over Christmas...excuse me, non-denominational holiday season. The trail of lights in Zilker park is also supposed to be seasonal. Grab cocktails at the Firehouse after (right off 6th). Peche is another place with a good vibe for this time of year.

This isn't the only board which requires the OP to participate to keep the thread active.

Prime example being the three posts that have happened since you did just that.

Chillin'.

Going from torrential downpours to subzero temperatures is crushing my desire to leave the house. You?

There is a new JW Marriott downtown on 2nd. I can't find a single thing wrong with that place.

Rainey Street is awesome. 6th street is not.

Owned by the same people that own Hotel San Jose on Soco. We used to stay at HSJ before we discovered AirBnB.
