Taking a short vacation and trying to decide between paying for an all inclusive or using points at Marriott Cancun. What says the Travel Board?

I'll be traveling by myself (late 20s guy) and this trip is 100% about relaxing and disconnecting.

If all inclusive, which do you recommend? I'm trying to stay in the $400 or less range for a 3 night stay.

ETA: Stay would be after the tropical storm but it is a consideration I am weighing in choosing another destination.

TIA

Casa Magna Marriott on hotel strip? I've stayed there. It was a solid hotel. There's a sports bar and a Japanese restaurant on the property along with the restaurant inside the hotel.

This....

One of the first properties nearest to the airport and a bit of a cab ride to the nightlife....however a solid property and a nice beach

If you want the best of both. You can book with points at Casa Magna then pay like $150/pp a day for their all inclusive package.

It’s a nice place to relax and a bit calmer than the JW adjacent, from my perspective.

Thanks, everyone! I didn’t realize that I could book the hotel and then pay extra for an all inclusive. $150/day seems like a lot for food and drinks so I assume I’d be better off just buying as needed?

Yeah. It's not a cheap hotel. I hate all-inclusive but if it includes the three restaurants I mentioned I'd be tempted. All were solid choices plus you'll probably have service on the beach.

its hard to beat all inclusive if its a nice resort.

We did Paradisus in Playa last year and it had 11 restaurants on site and was some of the best food id ever eaten. Steak, lobster, sushi, etc. Also top shelf drinks.

It was worth every penny. My wallet didn't even leave the safe the whole week.

Sure it is. I prefer to explore and eat where the people that live there eat.

I can have everything you mentioned within a mile or two of my house. When I travel, I want to experience where I am. I can sit by a pool and order drinks anywhere.

I know you said Cancun, but the wife and I stayed at the Grand Princess in Playa Del Carmen about a year ago and loved it. You can get a swim out suite for about $20/night and it is worth it. Food was great, drinks were great and they have several huge pool areas. Beach was good but kind of crowded when we were there.

It is about 40 minutes or so from the Cancun airport. I would highly recommend it to anyone going down there and will be going again in the next year or so.

Playa is a cool place. Pretty beach and 5th Avenue isn't a bad little shopping area with the awesome and very dangerous Tequila Academy at one end.

Unfortunately, we did not venture into Playa. We did rent a car at the resort and drove through Playa to Tulum. Saw the ruins, ate at a small restaurant and went to the Garden of Eden cenote. Was one of the best days I have spent with my wife. The cenote was incredible and would also recommend to anyone that is close.
