Flying on Sunday and plan to bring my camera. The whole camera bag is pretty big, so if I have to carry it on, I'll probably just leave it home. Is it safe to stick it in our checked suit case? The camera bag itself is not strong to protect it. And it's a relatively pricey camera. Don't trust them throwing around luggage. Just looking for frequent flyer opinions.

I always carry my camera with me. The only thing I put in checked bag is possibly the tripod.

Unless the case is rigid & amply padded, I wouldn't check it. Carry it on; maybe find an under seat bag that will hold the camera and a few other items rather than toting a big camera case.

Aside: I haven't packed a separate camera in a few years....resolution on my phone is greater than that of my several years old digital SLR.

While I understand your sentiment, there's a lot more to picture quality than resolution. I like to take nice photos on my trips, so I always bring my camera in my carry-on.

I would never check my camera. Ever.

Resolution isn't everything, unless your planning on blowing up a picture to poster size.

Same here. I have a full size dslr and 4 prime lenses I fit in a bag roughly 12" x 8" x 8". I carry it on as a personal item in addition to the bag I stick in the overhead bin.

Decided to not bring it. Have a fishing trip in the back country in the Keys and wanted to take pictures while out. But it's a solo guided trip, and I'll be too busy fishing anyway. Already have to carry work laptop as carry one plus another bag. Didn't feel like luring more stuff. Camera on phone will work for everyday stuff.

Thanks all
