Going to Banff later this summer, but we're staying a night in Calgary and driving into the mountains the next morning.

I've never been to Calgary and know nothing about the city, can anyone recommend a part of town to stay for the night? Preference is something with decent food options in the area, and west side of town for an easier escape to the mountains the next morning.

I'd say check out the French Maid, but if you're with the wife or SO that might not be a good idea.

I stayed at the Westin. Could walk to a bunch of restaurants and bars just a few blocks away and I remember it being really easy to get to banff from there.

Stay downtown, getting out of town from there to Banff is easy.

Those Canadian folks default setting is at nice.

I'll be there in August.
