Looking to take a trip with the SO early next year to Jackson Hole. When is the best time to go? Possibly proposing.

Skiing or not? Late April to the first of June is Mud season and a lot of stuff is closed down. Depends on weather, late April could have snow and early June could be beautiful if the snow melts early.

Mid March is nice because its not as cold and there is almost always snow.

Skiing would be great but there are a lot of other reasons for going. We'd like for the weather to be real nice so we can do lots of outdoor activities.

Either go during ski season or go in August

Mountains stay muddy from snow melt til mid july in my experience

Went the week of New Years a couple of years ago, it was very nice. Didn't seem overly crowded.

What we are saying is you can't do both. There's either snow and a lot of it, its muddy and not good for anything, or you going during the summer from mid-june to September. Don't go in October as everything shuts down basically, its a shoulder season month like May. Don't go in May or October.

If you want to hike, see wildlife, etc. then mid June through September is fantastic.

Amangani resort has a great restaurant with the best views of anywhere within 100 miles. Go have a romantic supper and pop the question, and I guarantee that won't be the only thing you're gonna be popping that night.

As a sidebar to this post, we went there for cocktails one evening and Ben Folds (as a guest) just started playing the piano they had set up in the cocktail area, it was pretty awesome. Nobody really knew who he was, including us, until somebody said something discreetly. That motherfricker can sing his arse off and play the piano like nobody's business.

The mountains are always better in the summer and fall (color change).

One place you could propose that would be unique and she'd never expect it, is the horseback ride. The most highly rated horseback ride in the country is there:
https://www.millironranch.net/

I've only done the 2 hour ride. Its pretty amazing, you basically go straight up the mountain its pretty steep both ways for a good portion of the ride. At one point you are looking close to straight down 1000s of feet. You get to the top and they take your picture of your group on horse with the scenery in the background, would be a unique place to propose and very beautiful. Maybe not for everyone and maybe a little odd I don't know, but it would surprise the hell out of her. You can see the pics online of what I'm talking about.

ETA: Frankly though, if I was to propose there I'd take either the Tram or the Gondola up out of Teton Village to the top of the mountain and go on one of the hikes where you can get off by yourselves. Maybe backpack a bottle of champagne and some snacks. Its a fantastic view once you get up of the entire area, and you'd have a lot more time alone. The trail ride you are with a group of people most of the time although you do get spaced out.
