Spending a couple nights in Charleston this summer on the way to Myrtle Beach. Looking for something close to downtown that won't be too pricey. Will have my kids with me and the wife (ages 10 & 13). Never been so in need of advice. TIA.

If you will have a car stay in Mt. Pleasant. Cheaper and it's only like 15 mins away from downtown Charleston.

Was looking at the Hilton Garden Inn in Mt Pleasant. Flying into Charleston and will have a rental.

Charleston is extremely walkable so you could even Uber to DT and walk where you need to go. Or garage for like 20$

Not a hotel, but stayed at this place a few years ago. It's more like a collection of adjacent vacation rentals right in the middle of everything

I enjoyed Francis Marion, which was really nice and depending on time of year is very well priced for how nice it is/the location.

It's not reasonably priced, but for anyone looking for an excellent hotel my wife and I stayed at The Dewberry about a month ago-incredible hotel and staff.

Stayed at the Holiday Inn Historic Downtown in December.
Very short walk to a TON of good restaurants. Right on the free shuttle bus line the city runs and we also used Uber once or twice.

If I wanted to spend a decent amount of time in downtown Charleston on vacation I would not want to deal with parking. Pain in the arse. Hotels downtown are pricey though. Days Inn is meh but usually the cheapest and has great location.

Great location, the suites and PH rooms are very nice, regular rooms can be a bit on the small side

I have stayed at the Francis Marion and liked it. It is at the edge of the campus of the College of Charleston. A place I liked better is the Vendue. It is centrally located, the atmosphere is nice and they have great bars, both inside and on the rooftop. The Vendue is my favorite.

Vendue is the right answer. Rooftop bar may be one of my favorite places in the world to grab a drink.
We are staying at Hyatt House on a budget for a festival trip next month. Came highly recommended by our friends in the neighborhood. Not sure if the location would work for you. It's on Upper King, but very reasonably priced.
