I posted on this board earlier this week about a trip to Europe I'm Going on soon.

For those who've taken extended backpacking trips/vacations through Europe, what shoes would you recommend?

I like the Danner Portland's or Jag Lifestyle boots. Any thoughts?

For backpacking through wilderness I wear Altra Lone Peak trail runners. Miles and miles on them. Many mountian ranges.

Ecco Mobile III in either the low or high top version. Waterproof, low profile, low key enough not to shout sneaker, but comfy and durable. Can handle cobblestones to walking trails and still be presentable for dinner.

Merrel makes some full
Leather shoes that are good for walking. I wore a pair around Disney a few years ago.

The funny thing is they were more comfortable for hiking than their "hiking" style shoes which I'm not crazy about.

Salomon - these are perfect.

I have two pairs of the green ones. Can wear with shorts, jeans, and khakis. Gortex is key... No wet feet on rainy days.

I wear the same shoes I wear at home. Do you really need another shoe just for a trip?

Now socks are a different story. Buy a cheap new 12 pack and dump those things in the trash after every day. No need to carry around smelly socks and stink up all your other clothes.

We have two standing orders in this platoon. Always take care of your feet. And try not to do anything stupid like get yourself killed.

If you boys are hungry we got steaks burning over there.
