Looking for something kinda quiet, south of Tampa & West Palm on either coast. Prefer the west coast anything Clearwater south pretty much.

Looking to rent a house/condo right on the water for only 2 adults, no kids. Not really looking for much night life, just a quiet beach with a couple decent restaurants nearby.

Looking to go very first week of November.

Possibility of the Keys as well. I think they have beaches in Marathan, and you can swim with fish, Dolphins, etc

Red Tide is bad from the Skyway in Tampa all the way down to Port Charlotte. Dead stinky fish everywhere.

OP take a good look at Sanibel Island for Gulf Coast. Or just go to Keys.

J. Foley Travel Agency has good rentals but their cancellation policies are suspect.

Skyway in Tampa

Woah, I was living there until February when did they extend the skyway all the way to Tampa?!

Oh golly you got me. Howard Franklin bridge in Tampa down past the Skyway and all the way to Port Charlotte is covered in red tide.

The Skyway is technically in Tampa Bay. What other pointers you have for the OP, Ace? Other than a polluted arse vaction spot.

Don't get your panties in a wad big dog, just messing with you. Tip 1 for OP is not to confuse Tampa proper with Tampa Bay ;)

Haven't heard anything about red tide this year yet, but if that is an issue that would be a pain for a vacation. I'd suggest Little Gasparilla Island if OP wants real seclusion, or Marco if you want a little more civilization and don't want to mess with Naples.

I've heard the red tide isn't in the Madeira/Redington/Indian Rocks area.

I thought red tide was usually gone in a week or two. But months now? That sounds fishy....

I live in Madeira Beach. Johns Pass is full of dead fish. City of St Pete also released over a million gallons of untreated sewage into Boca Ciega Bay and it's been bad for over a month now.

Redington Beach, Madeira Beach, Treasure Island, St Pete beach all are having issues because of the dump.

The red tide algae won't stop until the water cools significantly and the sewer dumps (nitrates) stop feeding the blooms. It's just a big fricking mess and thought you should know.

So in your opinion it would be foolish to book something right on the beach in Indian Shores the last week of October?

I've been calling around different bait shops and piers, sounds like it's in random spots north and south, but not too bad in that area. Redington Long Pier says they're catching a ton of fish and lots of people swimming. I don't want to be hard-headed about this, but that's really where I want to stay that week.

Whenever I need a quiet break me and a friend head over to Lido Key by Sarasota. Beaches are nice, St. Armand's circle has plenty of restaurants, bars and shopping and the crowd is more adult oriented. Never had a bad meal in that area of Sarasota and always feel relaxed after going there

Have you ever been to Longboat? That was our favorite day trip and was worth the hour and a half drive compared to the closer beaches.

If your set on Redington just book it man. I'd find it hard to believe you wouldn't be able to find some clean beach along that coast. But I dont live there anymore so idk -if Hog says its bad I don't see why he'd lie about it so maybe it is widespread.

Are you looking to fish more or relax more?

Also go to Woody's Waterfront in St. Pete Beach for some fish tacos.

I fish the beach beside and north of long pier pretty often. I don't fish on the pier but that's a whole different thread altogether. North of the pier was actually one of the spots that seemed pretty decent last weekend, outside of the dead fish smell. I didn't get in the water or fish just because of the warnings that are up. It was mainly a scouting trip to find an area to fish again.

Here is the active list that is up on FWC website.

Beaches where warnings or no swim advisories are likely to stay posted through the end of the month - for red tide and/or bacteria - include:

Hillsborough
Ben T. Davis Beach
E.G. Simmons Park Beach

Pinellas
Clearwater Beach
Redington Beach
Madeira Beach
John's Pass
Sunset Beach

Manatee
Anna Maria Island
School Key
Longboat Pass

Sarasota
Longboat Key Beach
New Pass Dock
Bay Dock
Lido beaches
Turtle Beach
Nokomis Beach

Indian Shores is not listed anymore. It may be starting to break up in that area. However it's sandwiched between Clearwater and Redington which are both listed. If you get to your spot and it sucks just post here again and we can drown our sorrows in beer. If you need assistance on anything I'll try to help.

Lastly, in 2015 the red tide was bad into the middle of December so who knows at this point.

Appreciate that bro, thanks for all the info. I'd love to get up and catch some fish or grab a beer when I'm over there.

I've never actually fished off the long pier before cause they charge outrageous prices, but I've fished that beach a little before and the rocks just a mile north of there.
