When will we get a British Airways nonstop NOLA to London Heathrow?

I suppose it's possible for seasonal service, maybe a weekly schedule, but that's not the typical MO for British Airways. Thomas Cook Airlines would be a more likely candidate, with service to London-Gatwick. They already do MCO-LGW.
There really isn't enough business travel on the route, so fare yield would be low, even if load factor was sufficient. But for vacation packages supported by local tourism agencies, I think they could try it, before fuel prices go up drastically.

I don't see it happening except as a seasonal flight during peak months 2 or 3 times per week. Market isn't there.
When it does happen it will be similar to Condor's seasonal direct flights to Frankfurt starting next May every Sunday and Wednesday. As low as $850 nonstop round-trip from MSY to FRA is an awesome deal if you have flexible dates!

I heard AirFrance was sniffing around with a non-stop to paris out of the new terminal.

In 2015 there were an average of 54 passengers per day, each way flying from MSY to one of the four London airports. (per U.S. DOT DB1B Survey) Even if they were heavily skewed to business travelers that is not enough to support a route.
As mentioned above, a package tour operator like Thomas Cook or Monarch would be an option (like Condor will do to FRA). In fact, Thomson will operate a few charters this winter. This type of service operating once or twice weekly during part of the year would be sustainable.

Air France flies daily to Houston and Atlanta. Will never happen.

SOON.
Looks like BA may announce MSY-LHR non-stop I'm guessing with a 787-8. They just transferred one of the frequencies for PHL-LHR to AA metal which will free up a 777-200, which may be used to upgrade a current 787-8 route and thus free a 787-8 up.

Doubt there will ever be the demand necessary from NOLA for that route.

That's exciting to hear! Even if it's limited days of the week I would welcome the option and try to take advantage.
It sounds like what's driving demand is Brits wanting to conveniently visit NOLA rather than the other way around. Posters love to bash NOLA but it continues to draw people from around to world.

Would be a huge announcement, and hope it happens. BA likes to run daily service to U.S. cities, so I'm wondering how they would start the schedule for New Orleans.
I know the Austin flight is daily, but heavily subsidized due to the software industry.

I ddn't think MSY could handle a fully loaded 747 or 777 (runway lengths).

The long runway at MSY is just over 10,000 feet and has supported 747s before.
For comparison British Airways flys in and out of San Diego with a runway length of just 9400 feet.

I would think maybe twice a week or something? No chance its a daily flight.

Runway 11/29 is 10,104 feet. Plenty big enough for a 747-400 or 777 assuming that they do not need their maximum takeoff weight.
In the dead of summer there could be weight restrictions, but if they don't need full fuel it should incur a penalty. Being at sea level helps in that regard.

10,000ft is plenty of runway for a 747 at sea level, even at max gross. 777 uses less, and a 787, even less than that. MSY had transatlantic service back in 1982.

When is the announcement supposed to take place?
Posted on 10/6/16 at 11:36 am to Sal Minio
Back in the day, I fueled a few freight hauling 747's to the max, and while they were loaded to the max with freight. They had no trouble taking off on the east/West runway, plenty room.

Not sure what the hold up may be. It is happening.
I guess they're still finalizing some details.

I was just told that BA had initially planned to announce service to New Orleans last year, but backed out and picked San Jose, Ca instead. However, said it could be announced next year and start in 2018.
