My roommate and I will be taking a nice vacation to Australia on April 5th. If anyone has been, I'd appreciate some tips on what to do, places to see, food to eat.

Itinerary:
April 7th: Land in Syndey, immediately fly to Ayers Rock/Uluru, small hike and go to bed early to adjust to timezone
April 8th: Full day at Uluru. Sunrise hike at valley of the winds. Go see the Natives cultural center. Go see the sunset at Uluru. We booked the Lights of Uluru dinner. Very excited for this.
April 9th - Fly to Melbourne, get in a little late. Probably get a nice dinner and check out the nightlife.
April 10th - Full day in Melbourne - I have no idea what there is to do in Melbourne. The national gardens look nice. There is a WW2 museum that looks interesting. Shopping at the Victoria market. Check out the casino.
April 11th - Fly to Cairns early in the AM, chill at the lagoon all afternoon. Go see what the town has to offer.
April 12th - We are going to book a full day snorkeling tour in the great barrier reef, then probably just go kick it in town that evening. Probably do some laundry at the hotel while we get a few beers close by.
April 13th - Fly to Syndey, go check out the harbor, get a picture with the opera house, walk around the historic area.
April 14th - Rent a car for 1 day, Day trip to the Blue Mountains, walk around town, check out the beach, Featherdale Animal Park.
April 15th - If we haven't seen enough animals, we are gonna check out the zoo. Otherwise probably museums and walking around. Strongly considering staying up super late and hanging around the casino so we can be tired for our flight home.
April 16th - Fly home

Sounds like a lot of fun. I def wouldn't waste time in Australia seeing the Book of Mormon. Especially since Melbourne is supposed to be an awesome town. Fun travels

Might be better off doing a rainforest tour in cairns instead of the beach. Most people go to the man made lagoon there and not the beach because of crocodiles. If you want to do some partying in cairns check out Gillian's backpackers.

I enjoyed the blue mountains a lot so I can recomend that. Maybe check out coogee to bondi walk then hang out at bondi beach. You could also check out manly beach as well. Obviously do the bontanical gardens and opera house.

The public transport is great in Melbourne so maybe spend a day exploring the city. You could check out the MCG and see if there's an Aussie rules game that day. I stayed in st kilda close to the beach while I was there and had a good time around that area.

Forgot to mention to check out the great ocean road while in Melbourne. This is a must for Melbourne.

There is an Aussie rules game that starts about 30 mins before we land at the airport :(

Only 1 week away! So ready for this vacation.

Taronga zoo across the harbor in Sydney is pretty nice. The bat exhibit is pretty cool

First off, sounds like you have a good plan and I hope you enjoy. I studied abroad in Brisbane 6 years ago and really enjoyed it, only place on your list I didn't get to was Melbourne.

Uluru: I did a hiking/camping tour that was awesome. It ended up pouring down rain and our guide was playing Thriller to the beat of the lightning, was pretty amusing . The awesome part was the next day at Uluru, there were waterfalls all over the place coming off the rock. If you can, make sure you book a campsite for this part of your trip. You can stay in hotels in Sydney/Melbourne/Cairns, but this is the true nature portion

Hope you're not afraid of snakes cause I am and don't remember how I pulled this off (this was at the Alice Springs reptile center)

Cairns: There is a nice little shopping complex right along the water with good restaurants and shops. We did a snorkeling trip that also had the option of scuba diving. Thinking back I probably should have done the scuba, but snorkeling was just as awesome. Bring some sea sickness pills because the water can get very rough (as experienced on the way back to land). We also were supposed to go skydiving, but the weather did not cooperate. Instead we did this in Byron Bay (in Queensland).

Sydney: Sign up for a tour. I did two: one of the city and one to the blue mountains. Blue mountains were gorgeous with quite a few hiking trails around. There's also a few wineries if I remember correctly.
The city tour was okay, they showed us the opera house and some old historic battleground areas as well as the bridge and Bondi and Coogee (forget how to spell it) beaches.

That's awesome! Yeah we are planning on renting a car one day and driving out to the Blue Mountains ourselves. On the way back we are gonna hit up Featherdale Wildlife Park and hit up Bondi and Coogee beach afterwards. Everything else we want to do in Sydney we can get to with public transportation easily.

LEAVING ON WEDNESDAY! THIS WEEK AT WORK IS GONNA BE SO LONG.

I highly recommend the stargazing program at Uluru. It sounds like the only night you can do it is when you get there though. They basically set up high powered telescopes about 10 minutes walking away from some of the restaurants in the main development. It is truly amazing. You have to sign up for it and there is a fee.

At the cultural center, there will be local artists selling dot paintings. Their work is outstanding and you will not find better prices anywhere else so pick it up if you like it. Get a packing tube from the shipping center so you don't ruin the work on your onward travels.

In Melbourne, there is a tour of an old jail (Gaol) that we found entertaining. I'm kind of into that kind of stuff though.

In Sydney, make sure you get out on the water. We took a roundtrip ferry every night from Circular Quay just to see the views. You can take a regional train to and buses around the Blue Mountains. Maybe look into it (or the car will be fine too). Worth doing in Sydney if you have time - Bondi beach, the Rocks area, the Harbor bridge climb.

In Cairns, take motion sickness medicine before heading out to the reef. Just do it.

You don't need to go to Taronga Zoo if you go to Featherdale. Pro tip at Featherdale: there will be kangaroos you can feed close to the entrance. There may be lots of people trying to feed them but the kangaroos won't be interested because they're full. Keep going through the park and you will come to another area with kangaroos. Feed them. You're welcome.

Have a blast man. Australia is awesome.
